Why Hart Won't Fire Dooley

It's not going to matter until the season is over.... He's not getting fired before then.. That's why this thread is pointless right now...

Ding ding ding... Exactly.

Then we find if we have the right guy in the AD's seat..

Honestly, that has me more worried at this point..

Nonsense. If there is a sense things are going in the right direction, donations and attendance will go up. The only way that happens is with a new regime.

But if Dooley remains and the season continues to deteriorate, the empty seats and decline in donations will cost way more than buying Dooley out and hiring a successor.

We lost ONE GAME...because of ONE BAD HALF...we're 3-1....and the season is deteriorating?!

Gotta love these armchair athletic directors...

Yeah boy it sure took Urban Meyer and Nick Saban and Les Miles so long to recruit good teams. Hope it works out for those guys.

Oh wait..

Guys it does not matter as long as a good hire is made. Hire the right guy and it does not have to be a 5 year rebuild.

Gene Chizik. 5-19 record prior to becoming Auburn's coach. Recruits a top 10 class in his second year including the Heisman trophy winner. Goes undefeated en route to the national championship. Wins multiple awards for coach of the year.

I bet this really helps recruiting guys thanks.

About as much as beating Akron did... lots of kids want to be on a team that can beat Akron... and GA State. And, we still have Troy waiting for those who are not yet convinced to sign with the Vols.

Look at him now. Granted he had a Heisman winner, but he also HAD a good OC. Auburn is on the down swing again.

If the brand fires Coach Dooley the past three years will be a waste. Dooley is the best solution for a team that has not been relevant since the late 90's. How many coaches actually put in for the job when Kittey cut the head off volnation and depleted team, none. Now that the team and fan base has reemerged, a coach would swept in and win and then probably cash in for a higher paying gig. With Coach Dooley you know what you are getting a young well disciplined coach that will instill life in a program and players that will pay off for years to come. Also, the program won't be under investigation for recruiting and off the field issues. I know my thoughts don't matter to anyone but, Coach Dooley will be here until he decides to leave coaching the University of Tennessee. Money is not the problem and never will be for the Tennessee. Boosters are whats wrong with collegiate sports.

I have been around many years and always a Vol. Some of you out there are calling for Dooley"s head, well, if you want him gone, either put out, or get out. About $50,000.00 or so a piece might work. Sounds to me like most of you want him gone, but don't want to help, so shut the hell up.

The only thing about getting those 8-7 wins is he will get them against teams that suck...Ga St?..Akron?...Troy?...Vandy?...Kentucky if they don't start a WR at QB again.."Oh the horror" and NCST...Not sure where the other 1 or 2 wins are going to come from..MAYBE Mizzou...But thats about it

Yeah you might want to take Troy off the suck list...I live 45mins from their campus and they love playing big schools. They gave Miss St. a handful back in week 3.

If you give them a chance they can beat anyone they play. Even at 2-2 they are no pushover team.

I will say something does not add up here. If boosters are willing to pony up the dough when a coach's buyout is a problem, why did UT report a 4 million dollar loss? Most have said the loss was due to buyouts of coaches. Where are the boosters who are supposed to be paying these buyouts? Did the boosters not step in because they did not support the Dooley hire in the 1st place? Why did we have to hire a budget type coach when the Dooley hire was made? Were the boosters not at the ready with a 10 million dollar check if that is what it took to hire a homerun coach? There is alot of "big booster" talk, but seems to be very little action to support it. JMO

Seems to me that they spent the money on facilities. 40-60 million I think? I like what they have built, but if you called Gruden and offered him 40-60 million then he would be our coach.

Ok lets fire CDD bring in a new guy it takes him 3 to 4 years to win then what. Blame hart for making the wrong hire. Guys fight through the process or find a new team. Go vols

Ive ppsted this many times and will continue to do so until som1 tells me why im wrong lloyd carr and fulmer had almost identocal situations at michigan and ut rich rod did terrible there and got fired after a few years before the process was done they lost a good part of their recruiting class that year brady hoake comes in year 1 with a depleted roster sub par talent Nd basically wins the sugar bowl with one elite player saban at bama 2 years k state has way worse players than us recruiting wise yet they just went into norman and beat oklahoma after 2 years with this coach and he was successful last year if we sent our much higher rated team to oklahoma wed get blasted kiffin didnt have a very good roster when he got here but we smoked uga shoildve beat bama and were competitive in every game... good coaches win. Theres just something wrong with the team right now

U mean us paying for tickets and merchandise and concessions and making donations doesnt help? wtf r u talking about where do u think dooleys paycheck and or buyout comes from

Logic will get you nowhere on this board.
You're gonna heat responses like "you can't afford NOT to fire him". Whether that makes sense or not.

Well logic says ut lost probably 2 million on akron being 2 3 full alone so... do the math and i dont even want dooley fired ur post just makes no sense

We loose to GA ...Dooley is gone. The almighty folks in charge will not tolerate empty seats in Neyland. Dooley better realize this.

Dooley will be the best coach we have ever had. If he is given time to fix what was Kiffed up!!!! STAY THE COURSE!!!

If Dooley wins 8 games he still will not be competitive in the SEC. The non-conference schedule had 4 automatic wins built in and then there is UK and Vandy.

Mizzou and Miss. State are not "automatic" wins like Vandy and UK. I'm definitely not a sunshine pumper, but Dooley should stay if he goes 4-4 because - let's keep it real - he is defiinitely not going to beat UGa, Carolina, or Bama. Get that out of your mind. Now NEXT year, he better start tagging one of them.

It won't even be the Georgia game. It'll be if he manages to go 0-4 in October (which is entirely possible) that things really start to get murky for him.

25,000 empty seats x $50 = $1,250,000

X 6 home games = $7,500,000 and if you figure each 4 season tickets accounts for $500 donation for total of $3,125,000 for total loss of $10,625,000. Covers a lot of buyout and potential for decent salary for excellent coach.

I disagree with the totality if the article---I don't think the University would think twice about canning Dooley if the "right" name became available. I think the University would swallow a Dooley buyout easily and who is to say what would happen. If Gruden would be interested I think it would A LOT of problems would take care of themselves.

1. I agree with the OP
2. Just like in 2010, fire him any time soon and all the 'right' guys will suddenly become unavailable.
3. Fire him now and we will end up hiring another guy just like him, but with a bigger buy out clause.
4. Like him or not CDD is here until the end of the 2013 season, minimum.

If the results aren't where Hart wants them to be, then Dooley will get fired. Dooley isn't Hart's choice. Another failed season will give him the opportunity to get his man in on the job.

If UTAD doesn't have the funds to buy him out, then I'm sure there will be alumni out there willing to pay it.

What Hart needs to see is real progress, both on the field and in the stands. The Florida game demonstrated where this program could be if people believe the program is going in the right direction. If the fans don't believe things are getting better, then it will show in the attendance numbers and in future financial support for the program.

Real progress for me is at least 4-4 in the SEC this year. I don't think that is asking much from a coach in his third year in charge.
