why even score that last TD

1:38 if we take a knee 3 times and Troy uses last 2 timeouts we kick the fg with 20secs left and they get the ball with 10secs left

as hot as Dooleys seat is i can understand why he didnt do it, but statistically - by the book - he should have

So we do exactly as you suggested and go up by 3. They get the ball back and still score against our pathetic defense, giving them the win. Here we take the points and practically guarantee at least a tie for overtime at worst and a victory in most cases.

You're right and everyone else is wrong.

With who our kicker is that would have been an idiotic move.

nah not a right or wrong issue i wanted to hear others opinions. im just amazed there are no other forward thinkers here. this is stuff chip kelly, urban meyer or mike leach would have done - believe that

no, they get the ball with no timeouts and about 10 secsonds left after the kickoff. with maybe a 1 in 100 shot for a 60-80 yard hail mary....or they could have tun the kickoff back i guess thats a 1 in 25 chance maybe, but still

How many extra points has palardy missed this year?

hes 19/21 so 90% chance he hits it

were you 90% sure Troy wouldnt score at the end?

No but with the luck we've had at the end of games this year I'd still rather take the for sure points than take the chance of fumbling while trying to run the clock out, mishandling a snap, or missing a field goal.

ok fair enough, you admit its statistically wrong but your gut says we may have got unlucky?

its my belief coaches should coach with the odds rather than be scared of bad luck....

am i the only one that thinks the worst call of Dooley's career was not telling Marlin Lane to fall down at the 1 instead of scoring that last TD?

This is the dumbest thing ive read today. You only do that when your are actually winning the game and trying to run the clock out. Why would we not take the sure TD (which is 6 points btw) and risk missing a FG (3 points) with our terrible kicker and have to go to overtime?

Every time I think that the threads on here can't possibly get any more ridiculous somebody comes along and proves me wrong.

So mr statistic....you think palardy has the same chance of missing that kick as an nfl kicker?

Not to mention the fact that 7 points in the jags-jets game he referenced would have put them ahead 6 points rather than the 7 we went up by today.

There's a difference.

so time left wasnt a factor?

98 seconds you knew Troy wouldnt go 80 yards and convert the 2?

since the score would put you up by 7 (a full TD and XP), no it really wasn't

and you don't play banking on the other team going for 2 rather than taking the tie and OT

thats assuming you make the xp after the TD , right?

so its a given but the FG isnt?
