program mirrors out football team for the past 20 years? Win a few big games and get our hopes up but in the end way UNDERACHIEVE... I appreciate how much the bb program has improved since BP took over but I still feel like they dont get the most out of the talent and resources they have. Go Vols!

They need better talent and better coaching, it's that simple. They have no one that can consistently hit a open shot. Puts a lot of pressure on your team to play intense defense all the time. Sometimes they do, other times, like tonight they don't.

We got 3 days to fix this.If not, UK will kill us we play like we did against Vandy we might lose by 60.

for basketball players, they seem to air ball a lot of open shots... it's disappointing because i know they can play better, but tonight they looked so lazy. i hope we show up @ Kentucky

I'd take the basketball team mirroring the football team. That would mean we get a national championship to go with 3-4 SEC tournament championships and some elite 8s at least. Not to mention some free windshield wiper fluid.

No, it wouldn't surprise me if they beat UK then lose at home to UGA. Why, because they're SOOOOO inconsistent. And that's 100% on Pearl. This team needs discipline in order to compete at an elite level, until then it will always be decent reg seasons and 1 or if we're lucky 2 and done post seasons. Because Pearl doesn't coach consistentsy. We win on talent, which luckily, they have a lot of, and that's why we can barely beat a horrible LSU team one night then blow a decent USCe team out another night only to get blown out by a mediocre vandy team tonight.

If we had Tyler Smith this season you could consider this underachieving, but with how the team is currently constructed we are playing at the level we should. We have two walk-ons playing significant minutes.

Good lord, you should take a deep breath. We're not any more inconsistant than any other team in the NCAA. It's the nature of college basketball.

as much as i like Bruce Pearl, we are poorly coached. Any team that cannot shoot a free throw has a coach who's prerogatives are misaligned.

Why do people think free throws in front of 20k people are so easy? There is a reason the NBA has few 90%+ ft shooters.

Spare me the "i can hit 10 for in my front yard" story.

Steven Pearl should be benched, and not play another second. Give the minutes to K. Hall!!

I think it's safe to say at this point that CBP coached teams overachieve with mediocre talent and overachieve with better talent. That being said, if you live on the edge, you're going to fall off every once in a while.

Most good basketball teams have a player or two that can hit a 15-footer consistently when given a little space. This team does not. There isn't one player on this team I have confidence in when they take a shot outside of 5 feet, and two guys in the starting lineup are among the worst shooters in the history of college basketball. Vanderbilt is just a much better team than Tennessee. If those teams played 10 times TN would probably go 2-8 or 1-9.

is it too much to ask for 75-80%? i don't think it is. it's all about priorities. if you don't coach fundamentals, it's shouldn't come as a surprise if the team underachieves.

All i can say is, this is nobody's fault in particular. It's everyone's fault. We have inconsistent players, and an inconsistent coaching staff. Kinda hard not to expect inconsistent results.

Look, i respect Bruce Pearl, because we're obviously a much better program than we were before he got here. And it is nice to have someone to root for during the football offseason, but he's had more than enough time to take this program to the next step. And i don't mean a national championship(which i would love), i'm simply saying maybe some runs at the elite 8 and a final 4 run every once in a while. With a coach who gets as much praise as he does, that really shouldn't be much to ask.

But hey, at least we have one coach who knows how to get the best out of her players on a consistent level. GO LADY VOLS!!!

Oh, and BTW, i'd change the name of this thread. Our basketball program has gotten better, but to say it has mirrored our football program for the last 20 years is a bit harsh to our football team. At least our gridiron boys have a national championship and came pretty close to two others. The last 8 or 9 years would be more appropriate.
