Why do you hate Vanderbilt?

I never really hated them until Gerry DiNardo came along running his mouth about UT. I hate them now, although it would be sweet to see them upset Florida, UGA, or Bama.

Bingo. It's that whole rich kid pampered thing. They consider themselves the "Harvard of the South." When they lose, they chalk it up to the fact that they "refuse to lower our academic standards just to win a football game."

Maybe I'm just jealous because I can't afford to send my kids there. Regardless, I don't like them.

Yeah, everytime you bring up football or any other sport, Vandy fans throw out that academics BS. Who cares? YOU SUCK!

I hate Vandy because Biff and Muffy sit in their Volvo sipping White Zinfandel before the game.

If you ask me, they're some of the nicest fans in the SEC, if not the country. They know they suck.

I hate Vandy for the same reasons I hate Kentucky. Sometimes they act almost snobby towards us when we regularly beat their pants off.

Having said that I always pull for the cellar-dwellars when they play someone like Florida, LSU, Georgia, or Auburn.

I pull for all SEC teams out of conference.

Several times, I've run into Vanderbilt alums on the other side of the country. I always say something like, "Hey, that's cool; I grew up in Knoxville and went to UT," and instead of expressing any sort of solidarity for the state of Tennessee, they always say something like, "Oh, that's too bad," or "Where's your construction-worker orange?" or "Couldn't get into Vandy?" or something equally snide. You expect that sort of thing at home, but when you're talking to someone in California, you'd think that Tennessee people wouldn't crap on each other like that.

Vanderbilt: all the pretentiousness of the Ivy League without the academics! Enjoy those Greek t-shirts, guy, because you've got decades' worth of student loans ahead to pay for them.

George Cafego hated them for that very reason, and the fact that he hated them is enough for me!

Why do I hate Vandy?

I don't. The family (while still UT fans) always had Vandy football season tickets while I was growing up. I spent many Saturdays cheering on the Dores if we didn't drive to Knoxville. While it still may be Vandy, SEC football in your backyard is still SEC football.

This board is starting to look like an Obama website what with all the class envy and everything.

I didn't like the way most of my Vandy alumni/fan friends reacted after 2005, but I have slowly come to realize how much they had bottled-up inside themselves all those years. It's kind of how I feel when UGA or UF fans starts talking about recent SEC championships.

After that loss to them, I had an arrogant Vandy fan ask me what does the orange T on my hat stand for. He told me it must stand for terrified, because we were scared to play them. I looked at him and calmly said it stands for twenty, because thats how many years it takes you to beat us. He has never mentioned that game to me again and i see him quite often.

In addition to allowing some Vandy fans the opportunity to show that they cannot win with class, it also game some Vol fans the opportunity to show that they cannot be graceful in defeat. Plenty of bad behavior to go around on both sides. I can say this though, I have never seen gangs of drunken Vandy fans wandering around Hillsboro Village or West End looking for people to fight just because thier team lost. It is a regular occurence at Neyland.
