I have stated numerous times that I have felt this team is capable of winning ten (10) games this year. (9+1).

Now with Eric Berry's interview and stated team goal of ten (10) wins. why does everyone (seemingly) still disbelieve (disrespect) the possibility of this certainly possible eventuality.

1). Because a 5-7 team can't win 10 games the next year under a new coach who is seemingly unproven.

2). Well I watch ESPN and they say so. (media).

3). Because it is the general consensus of Volnation posters that you read daily.

4). Not a good enough Talent level, to compete.

5). Our coaching staff Sucks.

6). Volunteer Fans just don't do a good enough job of supporting the Vols on Game Day.

Expand on the above or state a different reason.

I believe that we will get 7-8 wins. The reason I say this is based on the assumption that the QB play will still be a little rough. Don't get me wrong, I still have that little piece of me in the back of my head that thinks that our coaches can produce some magic and get us 10 wins, but I also have the realistic part of my brain. So, I guess going by your categories, I fall under #4.

I can believe we'll win 10 games if you can make me believe we can average 30 offensive points a game.

I think 9 + 1 is certainly a possibility. I remember a good team in 98 that had an average passer with a great running game and great defense. A few good bounces this year in key games, UGA, Ole Miss, Bama
and we could win all 3.

An 8 win season this year would be a failure. Hell, this team was literally 3 PLAYS from being 8-4 last year. They aren't going to get worse. I agree 9-3 really should be at the bottom end. I see no reason they cant go undefeated at home. They have 8 home games. They play Kentucky, Ole Miss, Alabama, Florida on the road. One of those is def a win. I can see them beating Ole Miss too. Alabama would be awesome. Florida..........

I feel the most points our defense will give up the entire season is 28 in one game.

I would invite and take a hit from Eric Berry (with pads) if we win 10 games this year. It's like a question a friend once asked me...would I take one punch from Mike Tyson for $1 million?

You are really comparing Tee to Crompton?

Tee Martin as an average passer in what way? Alot of them were short passers but he broke an NCAA record for consecutive completions against South Carolina.

If Crompton could be as "average" as Martin in 1998, I think TN would get 10 wins easily without the bowl game.

I would let EB14 tackle me for a full half before I let Tyson punch me.

One punch from Tyson could easily kill you.

I'm just saying that not much was expected of Tee either. Tee turned out to be able to manage a game great and make plays when it counted, rather unexpectedly for most that I remember. That was my freshman year and I don't know anyone who really thought the National Championship would happen right after losing Peyton.

Because 5 teams on the schedule will be ranked in the top 25, 2 of which will be in the top 5.
Because the Qb play is still suspect. (Check the practice updates)
Because of Wyoming last year.
Because there is not a guaranteed win in the month of October.
Because there is a new coach and a new system.
Because they will go into this season ranked in the 50's and beating powerhouses like Wku and Ohio will give you very little cred.
Because the schedule does not allow for any momentum to be established.

Very true, but Tee also only completed 57% of his passes for the season and a little over 2,100 yards.

Yes and he never looked half as pathetic as Crompton...

I do agree Tee was a great passer but he's still no where close to Crompton.

Tell me how many teams in the past have won 10 games with suspect QB play with a top 10 toughest schedule? On top of that, we're relying on freshmen in a few important positions. Those freshmen may be good, but they are still unproven. The coaching staff has done pretty much all they could have done since December, but they are in too deep of a hole right now to really compete for an SEC crown this year.

I can believe we'll win 10 games if you can make me believe we can average 30 offensive points a game.

If we average 30 ppg and the defense is just as good as last year, we'll win probably be 11-2.

Tennessee has not averaged over 30 points very much in the past few years, and has had 10 win seasons.

2008 - 17.3
2007 - 32.5
2006 - 27.8
2005 - 18.6
2004 - 29.1
2003 - 28.1
2002 - 22.8

With the exception of 2007 (and that average is inflated a bit due to OT), Tenn hasn't averaged 30ppg since 2001, and they have had two 10 win seasons without averaging 30ppg.

Plus, statistically, in 2007 we had the worst defense in UT history. So, I think if UT averages 32ppg like in 2007 and a defense just as good or nearly as good as last year, they will win 11 games.

That being said, I don't think UT will average 30+ppg next year. I think they'll be around 22-25ppg.

Because our offensive players are learning their 3rd system in 3 years.
Because our talent is depleted
Because we do not have a QB
Because our competition is stacked

i dont think its that people think we cant win ten. I think its that people usually think about regular season only and forget about bowl games

A number of reasons 10 games is probably too optimistic.

In the SEC you need quality depth on the DL and the OL to win. And generally, you need a good QB. As of right now, Tennessee is lacking in all 3 areas.

The starters should be solid on the offensive and defensive lines, but without a great deal of luck, similar to what Alabama had last year in regards to a lack of key injuries, UT will not win 10 games simply because the back ups are either underwhelming or nonexistent.

I believe 8-5 or 9-4 sounds about right. But what's with the title of this thread? Why do people disagree? I don't know... maybe because everyone has a right to their own opinion? I think carrots suck... do you like them? If so... why do you disagree with me and everyone else who doesn't like them?

I was messing around just so ya know. I just thought it's weird to basically say people should agree with you because Eric Berry said the same thing. :salute:
