Why do we really think Dooley will make a big hire?

I would rather they get a good coach than a name coach. I like the idea of a creative coach that can adjust and teach. The La Tech coach is ok if he can do that. The Baylor coach sounded ok. I could give Thompson a chance (if after working with him I think he's capable). I have to say that after the 70 points Steele had hung on him that I would be dissapointed if he was hired because unlike the Baylor coach he'd been there a while and those were his players. I would rather they get a good coach than a quick hire - it makes Dooley seem more level headed if he looks around and thinks about it than just throw money at the 1st big name that comes along.

This hire is HUGE for Dooley. Name needs to be in the ballpark of Chavis, Shannon, Stoops or BIGGER. Anything less (Bennett, Nix, Spangler, Steele, Zook, etc.) will be sealing Dooley's fate of looking for another job after this upcoming year. JMHO.

Heres one from left field - Craig Bohl from the North Dakota State Bison. The Bison just won the FCS Championship with one of the best defensive schemes I have ever watched.
C&P -
Since then, Bohl has coached on the Division I level for 18 seasons including stops at five different universities. He was the linebackers coach at Tulsa for two seasons (1985-86), the linebackers coach at Wisconsin for two seasons (1987-88), the defensive coordinator at Rice for five seasons (1989-93), the linebackers coach and defensive coordinator at Duke for one season (1994), and the linebackers coach at Nebraska for eight years. The final three seasons at Nebraska also included the defensive coordinator duties.

His seasons at Nebraska included a number of Top 10 defensive national rankings for a team that compiled an 85-18 record including national championships with a Fiesta Bowl win in 1995 and an Orange Bowl win 1997. At Duke, he helped mold one of the biggest turnarounds in college football, working with a program that posted an 8-4 record in 1994 after the Blue Devils had gone 3-8 the year before his arrival. A number of athletes who have played for Bohl while at Nebraska have played or been drafted in the National Football League.

I respect that but it seems to me that the ability of his DC to help when games is key; in other words the record is what seals his fate not the name of his DC.

The UT way is to hire a up and comer for cheap and hope for big results. We will hire a cheap DC and get cheap results. Just wait, disappointment follows Dooley.

Just because you don't know who a guy is doesn't make it a bad hire.

If he doesnt hire a proven coach with a great reputation, and it blows up in his face... He is gone after 2012. Period. Best way to put it

Make no mistake, I am pretty sure this hire is going to be someone who will destroy the fine defensive recruiting class our staff has built but . . .

A- Dooley made an excellent hire in CJG and
B- Hiring a cheap up-and-comer was the Mike Hamilton way. He is gone. (Thank God.)

Those are the reasons for optimism.

I know that you didn't mean to do it and meant to type "stamp", but that's just funny to me.
