Why do we keep running the stupid ball on second down and eight?

I don’t get the play calling yesterday unless it was trying to surprise GA against what they expected us to call, just guessing here.
Some are saying we should have thrown more deep balls, but they were not working GA was prepared for that.
I thought should have had some screens, slants and more short yardage passes. I did not see any possible saved surprise plays I thought we might have had in our back pocket, like the Fant TD pass recently. Personally I hate those 30/40 yard passes to the sideline, they scare me.
We were just too predictable and vanilla.
