Why do we keep running the stupid ball on second down and eight?

Such a waste of a play. It’s like the o/c or someone just draws a blank and calls it. I don’t get it. It needs to be taken out of the playbook.

Because the Vols have been a great rushing team this season. Georgia is just really good and executed and dominated the trenches....

Yeah, I’ve thought that since last year. That “quick hitter” straight into the defensive tackle is a waste of a down, IMO, and UT does it often. Seems like they prioritize speed over creativity, maybe trade them out for a screen or edge run every now and again.

Here is something. Not all 2nd and 8s are equal. After enough sample size early in that game. We weren't going to have a ton of time to throw past the sticks. Getting an occasional first on ground or at least 2-5 yards to make third down more manageable. And occasionally the over the top of the defense happens on third and short because defense anticipates what majority of offenses do run or short pass or bubble screen. So while the safeties come up to defend that one receiver has opportunity for the kill shot.

I am not sure there was anything that would have been consistent in that game. The crowd noise paired with Georgia's front four shift pre snap made our O-line jump and put in terrible situations. Compare that with the other games and those end and 8 runs you speak of worked for most part. Credit where credit is due Georgias defense was able to limit all our options at home.

The UGA shift presnap is something they've done to UT in the past. Zero chance they didn't prepare for it in practice. I suppose execution of the prep is difficult in the environment.

We need to run the ball. We didn't run it enough in the early part of the game. Problem is UGAs DL is very good.

If we play them again things will be different. I think when they look at this film it is going make them mad. We will learn from this. We have to respond strong down the stretch. GBO!!!!!

If we had better backs and an OL full of 5-stars, the results of those runs would be more productive and consistent, IMO. Our OL has done a great job this season, but most of them are over-achievers. The talent gap was apparent against UGA, unfortunately.

Because we usually pick up 3 or more yards and that opens the playbook up for several more options. Heupel knows what he’s doing
This is the correct answer. If we pick up even a couple more yards then third down is much more manageable and opens the playbook. If we throw on 2 and 8 and it’s incomplete then the defense knows we have to throw it.

So who made you the all-knowing? He's as entitled to start a thread as anyone.
Oh FFS have you been here long and read his threads? Dude always predicts we’re going to win by two touchdowns then wonders why things didn’t go as planned.

Because we didn’t want to get sacked or have an incomplete pass. If we had “numbers” to run, we will. If we don’t succeed, it’s because their 4 beat our 5.

Darnell would play at other more talented places, but the rest have played to our scheme which could not work yesterday.

We got beat by an elite team at their house. Are they perfect? No. Can they be beat? Absolutely. But they played good and the crowd noise affected us. Hyatt and Tillman said they couldn’t hear the snap count which messed them up getting their jump. We still got open a few times where HH missed the throw. Let’s see what happens when we play them on neutral ground.

I agree with this and I think we should’ve had a little more running from Hooker. Credit to UGA though. They played very well.

Any play is a good play when it's exocuted and works, or a bad play when it doesn't work.
