Why do Tennessee fans hate Steve Spurrier so much?

Because he's a low-class egg-suckin dawg. Like any cowardly bully, he talks badazz crap until you stand up to him and call him on it, then he runs off lookin back like a kicked dog. There's been plenty of coaches that have beaten us that I don't hate, that I actually respect. But he aint one of those.

never really hated him. hated the fact that the gators had him and his innovative style on and off the field. i think the fact that kiffin compares in many ways to spurrier played a LOT into his hiring

post starter forgot the famous quote for when manning stayed for his senior year: "he wanted to be a three-time Citrus Bowl MVP"

Because he grew up in TN and went to High School here:

Then he left the state and went to UF.
Exactly.

Also hate him for going to my high school's arch-rival. And for those huge beatdowns he consistently dealt us.

because his teams single handedly kept us from playing for titles in the 90's. i believe peytons record was something like 45-5 or 6 and 3 of those were to florida.

We hate him for the same reason the rest of the SEC is going to hate us for a loooong time
:fool: There's a big difference between running your mouth when you have already done something and running it when you haven't even coached a game yet. Even worse, is running it when you're 3-4 and 1-3 in the conference.

So heres a nice story...

Here in good ole JC, science hill high where spurrier played in his HS days, has played all its home footbal games at memorial stadium, otherwise known as spurrier field, time has come to build a new stadium as this one lacks proper facilities (much like spurrier himself) and needs to be closer to the school. The science hill team recently played its last game on that turf before demo...spurrier was invited to come out for ceremonies...he didnt show...no 'Im busy', no 'Get bent', nothing, nevermind he was a couple hours away in nashville at the time, playing vandy...he wants nothing to do with a stadium carrying his name, his hometown, or this state...like I said before...hes a cock...takes a cock to coach a bunch of cocks...Ive said it before...

Lots of hatred for him here...

Spurrier was the Lane Kiffin of the 90's. Always spouting off, cocky, arrogant, and winning. But come to think of it, how many reprimands did he get for spouting off, none that I can recall. Spurrier done it to get under your skin and get you to hyped to play. Look at the Peyton games against Florida during the heyday of Spurrier's comments. He did what he did to give his team the edge.
Curious, how many fans that hated Spurrier would give their eye teeth to have him as a coach?

It has something to do with him being from Johnson City, TN, and going to play at UF when he got out of high school. I think he's had bad feelings towards TN for a long time. I don't know if TN did not recruit him out of high school, or if he just didn't want to come here, and went to UF. Not to mention that he's a big pain in the a$$ with a big mouth. At least he was in the 90's when he was at UF, but not soo much anymore. He's at least tolerable now.

Don't hate him at all. Love to beat him when we can. Respect his coaching abilities but to say "hate"... that's a stretch. He's a good coach.

Now if he shows his butt like Urban I'll lose all respect for him. That guy is two-faced.
