Why do so many expect lightspeed improvement?

The negativity it becoming strangling in here, especially as I see some names popping up that only seem to show up when things aren't going well.

This isn't a case of a poorly coached team with heart having to get used to new coaches, it's a team that has multiple mental problems and years of suffering under a system that is slowly being brought out in the open. You can't really do major renovations to a building when the foundation has crumbled underneath.

The rest of this season isn't going to be a love-fest. The hype surrounding the hire, the offseason successes in practice and recruiting, and a WKU game that went all-too-well got several of us too pumped up and is leading to a letdown right now. Rome wasn't built in a day. We have to have some patience and forgiveness this year.

If next year looks like a repeat of this one, then we should consider sounding the alarm. Until then, hang loose and have a beer. It might not be the smoothest ride, but it's way too early to hop off the train.

Its not negativity, it's frustration. When you don't do anything different to win it gets frustrating.

I don't want to win next year. I want to win now. We DO have a football team you know and we have the ability to win if we execute properly.

That's sort of like deciding to rebuild a car and then getting mad when it doesn't run any better after all you've had a chance to change is change the upholstery.

When he coached at USC, Kiffin was used to having talent on offense. He has no clue what to do now.

He has no QB now and the receivers are really just not that good. There is but so much you can do when facing 8-10 guys in the box at pretty much all times.

b/c people all saw the meyer, saban, and carroll stories at the respective schools and want it to happen to theirs

The continuing fundamental football mistakes combined with playing a qb that is beyond incompetent tends to make one wonder what the hell is going on.

yeah - and im not arguing we should expect "oh we're better"

but so many people have spent the preseason and the first few games saying how next year we're immediately going to be serious competetors, some this year too.....

I expect it because I am a fan. I want my team to win. When they don't it pisses me off. Patience be damned. I am tired of being embarrassed that people know I am a Vols fans. The team needs to win and win now. It will also be ok for them to win later. Tomorrow is not promised, however, and I will take my good times up front please.

I think Monte will keep the game as close as he can, but I have not seen any improvement in the offense at all. I would not be surprised if UT only wins 1 or 2 SEC games this year. But in fairness to Lane, UT really has NO QB play at all!! I just thought Crompton would develop a little more then he has. He is almost as bad as the UK QB.

The most frusturating part is the fact that players that were highly regarded can not complete what appear to be simple football skills. I've never played, but I've watched every level from high school up, and leading a receiver never seems to happen this inconsistently

That's the most painful part, is sheer inconsistency on what seem like natural plays.

Of course I may be talking out of my butt, but whatever, as you said, Rome wasn't built in a day....

i disagree on offense this is a poorly coached team, there even starting to fight with each other.

Ppl want quick improvement b/c Auburn was just as bad as UT last year and they're 5-0, Washington was 0-12 and now they look great and beat USC. We will get better with more talent, but other teams are doing a lot more with mediocre talent. It's just frustrating watching the same thing happen every Saturday.

Why do so many think that if you are for this coaching staff that means you can't criticize them at all. I don't think keeping kickoffs from getting past midfield is expecting lightspeed improvement.

no way ..AU cupboard is alot better stocked than our is.. they had 2 qb last year that came back this year. there line is alot better than ours. chizik was left alot better hand than KIFFIN was left.

Just a guess, but maybe because your coach guaranteed a victory against the best team in the country on the road? Other than that, I don't know.
