Why do our recruits lose stars?

I thought all of our 3 stars were going to get a bump! Now they're getting downgraded by a recruiting service ... <wrings hands wildly>

Goodness folks, can we please hurry up with the practice videos showing the 5 minute opening media access period, so that we can wildly speculate on the quarterbacks with footage of 3 throws vs air?

We need something concrete around here.

This is some real BS! How can our recruits lose stars before they even play a down their senior year? I noticed Rivals has us ranked 6th and E SUCKS has us at 16th. Nico is now a 4 star according to them? Make it make sense...

recruiting analysts are evaluating players at camps, workouts and via tape the entire year so they adjust player ratings based on what they see. that is how its been done going back to the 80s. Its done even more in todays world because they are constantly getting tape in on players.

I got to know Bobby Burton and visited Rivals offices in Brentwood several times 15-18 years ago. Their library of tapes on players was huge at that time. In today's world I'm sure they get digital files all the time so its much easier to get tape on players. Evaluating is a constant endeavor, as it is with coaches also.

We sure get exited with ‘booms’ when we land a big fish.

Wonder why?
Fans want to see their teams recruit well, and when someone commits (I dont consider verbal commits as 100%) then it is a chance to celebrate. How many 5* players have committed and played at TN and did not pan out at all? How many 4 stars?

I don't remember many of our 5*'s working out the last 10 yrs. Since TN was not very good all this time makes me think they were not 5*'s anyway. These rankings are very subjective so take them with a grain of salt. A lot 3*'s end up in the NFL.

How many 3 stars? That’s correct. No one remembers….for a reason.

We only care about production on the field during their careers here, but highly publicized 5 and 4 star recruits catch more of the flak than the 3 stars if they dont perform imho.

There is a direct correlation between top 5 programs recruiting the most 4* & 5* players. It’s not just a coincidence that Bama, GA, tOSU, & OK, maybe ND are usually top 5 recruiting classes, and are usually in CFP hunt each year. Really crucial that TN lands a top 10 class. If TN recruits are being dropped down in stars it’s because they’re not camping. Recruiting services are lazy & rely on Saban, Smart, Day, Dabo & Reilly to aid them in their player rankings.

Since when has ND been in the CFP hunt each year? Since the days Farrah and Raquel needed security to get through an airport?

Crap. So how would y’all go about trying to sort through and rank a million high school football players with a staff of maybe a few hundred scouts…if even that many?

I’m not saying there isn’t a ton of BS. I too notice how kids who commit to UT seem on an average to lose more than they gain in rating. And how half of Bamas 3 starts end up as 4 stars.

But crap don’t sit here and act like it’s some easy, black and white thing. It has to be maddening to try and get it right. And by and large people want to do a good job at work. They don’t purposely try to fail.

Simply, I care not what their star rating is but how they finish their career. Too many times fans get caught up on star rankings and don't see the big picture. It's how the players adapts! How many 3-4 star recruits have we seen that turns into great players? How many times have we've seen 4-5 star ranking players bust? Get away from the ranking. and let the coaches coach these kids up.

If you know football you understand coaching leads to putting players in a winning position. Talent can be taught but then you have to deal with attitude but with a 3-4 star players feel they have something to prove and they play harder and work harder, Sorry just my thoughts.

You have to go to the sponsored camps to maintain and upgrade your star status! It is stupid but it is what it is! Nico still as good today as he was yesterday or last week or when he committed!

I have heard several football gurus say that Nico is the best in this class, not only the best QB, but the best player period. Sure fire bet to play on Sunday's.;)
