The insecurities of our fanbase is amazing to me at times. Why do so many care one bit what the media says right now? Bashing Kiff is a very easy way to do two things.
1. Easy deadline material. In a 5 minute google search you have all you need to get your fish wrap complete and turned in.
2. It get clicks on their websites and causes their bosses to be happy from the traffic.

Just ignore it folks. Just remember, there are some (growing fewer every year it seems) sports media guys who really know what they are talking about and actually do research. But by in large there are many more who don't know the difference in football and basketball it seems.

Sadly, you are right. Journalism as a whole is lacking in credibility and objectivity.

It's the same reason conservatives watch Fox News and why liberals watch MSNBC. It's more fun to hear what you want to hear.

I've never understood why people care that much about what the chattering class has to say about sports. Unlike most areas of life, there are actual games with empirical, objective results. Who cares what speculations people spew all over the place when you know you're going to tee it up and see what you've got in just a few weeks?

Maybe if he had the love like Notre Dame and USC get, we would be ranked heading into this season?

With me, I don't really care whether the media loves us or not. I would just like to know why they don't. I don't understand what Tennessee ever did to deserve the snubbing that we get from the media. When it comes to storied history, we are right up there with Alabama, Notre Dame, Ohio State, and USC. We are the 2nd most successful program in the SEC, right behind Alabama. Our facilities are second to none. We have historically recruited and developed some of the best football players in the country, and he have historically been one of the top programs to put players in the NFL. Yet for some reason, we are treated by the national media as if we are some 2nd tier football subdivision school.

I frequent a lot of message boards, including some that have fans from many teams, and ALL of them think that the media/ESPN hates them. I'm sure somebody will post some "facts" now about why they really do hate UT.

I really could care less if they loved us. In fact I love the fact they hate us.

As long as we are in the media, fine with me. The only bad press is no press.

I think one reason folks don't want the media to hate us is that for all the stupid, ill-informed things that show up in the media, those folks still influence perception.
If ESPN really hated us (of course, they don't) they could cost one of our guys the Heisman or something. They could push a much less deserving DB that plays most of his games on their networks over a guy who plays most of his games on CBS.
Or they could overpromote two of three undefeated teams and get them placed in the BCS game, couldn't they Auburn?
Mostly though, people just don't want to read that their team is full of thugs led by a bigmouth, do nothing so far coach. We can get that on our rivals' boards.

I agree with part of what you say. I have no problems with the media hating us. We dont have the talent we should have but there is much more talent than the team and record showed last year. So I'm ready to see this team finish with 7-8 wins and shut some of these asses up.

The things I've read online about CLK haven't really bothered me. I've read that he''s not qualified, knows nothing about how to coach, road the coattails of his dad to get the job at USC...... yada yada yada!! I support CLK 100%. I honestly feel that he could win a National Championship in a few years when he gets a team he recruited. The boys have got some fire behind them now and discipline I think they needed. So when he comes to the negative media about Coach Lane Kiffin and our team this year, I agree that the journalists are just throwing some b.s. together just to get something written.

But other than that, I have to admit it stinks when Tennessee doesn't get the accolades it deserves sometimes. We really have a great program. Our facilities can rival any and probably come out on top.

It's not that I have insecurities as a fan.... I just have so much love, respect, and pride in my team, it would be nice to see the team and coaches get recognition at a National level by someone like ESPN.
