Why do coaches turn down TN???

Boosters don't give any control to the coach.

As much as fans talk about one of the most winning traditions the reality is it's been almost 20 years since we were relevant.

Fans attacking the coaches with anything that really has nothing to do with coaching ability. This fanbase makes the Philadelphia Eagles and NY Giants fans look like angels at times.

please explain???

How exactly do the boosters interfere with Jones???

..evidently, he is recruiting well.
..he negotiated a contract that he signed.
..he can't coach himself out of a paper bag on Game day.
..he picked his own coaches and brought them with him from Cincy.

Don't blame the boosters for expecting him to win games. That is what they hired him for.

Our fan base puts our coaches on the hotseat way to soon!!

A coach wants a chance to build a great program and work through his mistakes. You guys started on CBJ after the first season and while I do think it should be a hot seat a lot of you were bashing him even after he beat FL and was on a great win streak.

Why come here and gamble on if our fans will like you quickly or bash you for years. Your expectations are high and that's fair but a lot of you jump on the coach as soon as the first mistake is made. No patience whatsoever!

Justin Fuente was one of the hottest coaches others desired for a few seasons but he took the VT job because he knew they wouldn't be quick to run him out of town if/when a bad season comes.

We all work better when we feel comfortable and all of us want comfort. We ran a fairly good bb coach out of town (not great but respectfully good) because of our antics.

No kindness towards others and no patience seems like a story that doesn't end well but I hope I'm wrong.

We are stupid for not hiring Cutcliffe and letting him run the show when Fulmer was fired! Peyton trained with him every summer when played in the NFL. All of this mess could have been prevented! Instead we can’t land a top head coach bc our administration makes terrible decisions. The last three hires have set us back and it’s till hurting us. We haven’t had the talent on the roster to attract a top coach. Until the administration wants to spend the big money it takes to land a top coach we will continue to be irrelevant. We consistently lose to good teams bc we get out coached! We have talent now. It is time for a proven coach to be hired for our Vols

Fuente went to Va Tech for a raise, better job, and to get out of Memphis.

Kind of a no brainer.

Don't think you understood. Big names in college football want NFL control in college. They want to be able to hire or fire (like Saban)their coaches without answering to anybody.

UT doesn't give that kind of control to the coaches.

I misunderstood you. I thought u meant that boosters are interfering with the coach.

But since you are talking about boosters having a input with the admin about hiring, you are Damn right they do. Some of them invest millions into the school. Its just stupid that they don't have a voice. They have every right to be at the table. They have skin in the game.

I graduated in '91 and still give to the school every year...every year. I don't give millions but I sure have earned the right to voice my input on a college football forum.

I'm at the point that I would take Spurrier and changing our shade of orange and adding a nice royal blue if it would make us relevant again.

So you think Spurrier is an upgrade to Jones? It just took Spurrier 7 years at SC to win 9 games. They probably should have fired him in year 5.

Okay, I'm ready to dig General Neyland up if it will make us a championship contender again. I'm desperate. I'm losing my mind and I want to enjoy being a Tennessee fan. Oh and I'm sick of hearing how we're really just an 8 or 9 win program and we should accept it.

In your OPINION, why have all these coaches turned down the TN football program in the last few hires...

Do they know something about the "powers that be" that we don't??? LWS has already said they don't care about winning..

Yes, I'm assuming that all the coaches have REALLY turned the job down. If I was running a business aka TN football, I'm not going to tell you I didn't look for the best coach, so you will by tickets, and concessions...

Opinions are never wrong.

This conversation was mentioned on ESPN about Tennessee coaching job and it was mentioned that for 30 years Tennessee has 2 head coaches, 1 AD and 1 Chancellor. Since then they have had numerous of all 3 especially AD. The problem is that coaches want to know that if they take the job that they have security (not that $4 million+ isn't security enough).

The problem is that it is actually true. If you look at the overall history of Tennessee football from start to finish the win percentage is around 0.67 percent. With a 12 game season that does in fact = 8 wins.

Fulmer's win percentage was 0.743 which would average 9 wins in a 12 game season.

Neyland's average was higher (0.829) which would be a 10 win average in a 12 game season.

The win percentage in bowl games is actually worse around 0.54%.

Folks remember the series of years when Manning was here and right after (1998) but sandwiched around those were some less than stellar years.

Tennessee has NEVER won like Bama did under the Bear or under Saban - but folks seem to think that happened, but it did not.

Security is not just money. To some it means a place to land and raise a family and be part of the community for longer than 2 to 5 years.

This job with the unreasonable expectation of the fan base coupled with local media that thrive on finding something to complain about is career suicide for coaches. Coaches that have said no or asked for ridiculous amount of money realize that and are protecting their future.

The good coaches will evaluate whether they think they can win immediately because they know that is what expected and to not do so will put a black mark on their resume.

All coaches are not program builders - they will not go into a place where they need to work their tails off to rebuild the culture. Those coaches look for places where they can have immediate success (... so as not to damage their reputation ....) then make a decision as to whether they can sustain the success or not and will bail before they are fired.

Winning the east once every few years is an unrealistic expectation?

Some of you guys just spew nonsense

5yrs is too soon? Most coaches in modern football get fired in year 3. We supported ours into his 5th season.

I hate to break it to some on here, but when you are rich like these coaches are, and you have options, Knoxville is not near the top of places to live. These guys have families just like you do- and where they live, go to school, etc. all that makes a huge difference.

Hate to break it to you, Knoxville is rated as one of the best places to live in the country.

-low cost of living
- moderate climate
- beautiful scenery
- good schools
- family environment
- centrally located to the entire eastern United States
- named top place to start a business
- economically insulated by the many gov't and medical jobs the area provides
- southern hospitality, people not from the south still love this
- Knoxville is expected to grow by 250k people in the next 10yrs. It is exploding here, that means people like living here.

So your statement makes zero sense ans is based on your skewed opinion and zero facts

Those 8 and 9 win seasons with an 11 game schedule?

At least we have defined more recent history.
