Why did we not use Hardesty more last night?

I don't know why we didn't run Foster and Hardesty more. It was obvious the passing game was struggling.

Too much like the Alabama game last year. Offensively and defensively.

Got away from the run on offense, and made the opposing qb look like Joe Montana on defense.

We didnt run them more because, if you watched, when we commited to the running game they blitzed and stopped us quite often....remember the play where crompton just got the handoff to foster before getting tackled and then foster was only able to get 2-3 yards? Outside of the big runs, the running game got stuffed quite alot early and late into the game...the passing game was just so horrific that we all forgot about most of it

Foster, Hardesty and Jones all averaged more than 5 yards a carry last night...Foster with 95 yards on only 13 carries and your not giving him the ball...? are you kidding me?

UCLA's defense would have never been in position to do what they did if we wore them down by running the ball!

Better question.

Having said that it should be pointed out that Foster went 96yds in 13 carries at 7.4 ypc.

Blitzes? Then run a screen. Run some tosses. Throw something to the rb in the flat. Goodness, it's not that complicated.

They avgd 7.4 and 5.5 ypc. 160 something yards on 25 carries. No way we should have gotten away from that.

Are you kidding me? We averaged over 5 yards a carry.... you call that getting stuffed? And 2-3 yards isn't a bad thing, if you get 3 yards on first and second down, that's a 3rd and 4. Alot more manageable then the 3rd and 8+ we saw all game.

Because until last night, hardesty ran like he was a bust as far as players go

Have you ever watched Hardesty run? Evidently not

What are you talking about? We averaged over 5 yards a run. We didn't run them more because are coaches are stupid.

MY point was that the entire offense was anemic. If we were running the ball so well, then how were we not able to get more rushing touchdowns, especially off the long runs.

ANd if you watch, before they took the lead in the 4th, they spent alot of that quarter stopping our runs and making us pass. YEs, we got 2-3 yards at first, but then we got no gain the next play...it wasnt a constant gain and wearing them down like it was in the first half.

Also, i forgot to mention the countless bonehead penalties we had that took us often out of the short yardage situations and forced us out of the run

There is no plausible explanation as to why we abandoned the run. Even if both of those guys had the stomach flu... We still have Creer and Poole (who apparently was really lighting up practices and scrimmages). If anything all 4 of those guys should have had carries.

Personally, I think Forster 20, Hardesty 15, Creer and Poole 5 each.

Hardesty had one good game up until last night, and that was Cal. Outside of that, he was the running back who gave us 2 yards per carry at most and was only useful when foster was tired

So you didn't watch the Georgia game last year?

Hardesty averages over 3.8 yds per carry throughout his career. That's not too shabby at all. He's never looked like a bust of a player. An oft injured player maybe, but when healthy, he's been very, very solid

Even if he had been a bust up until last night, once he stopped looking that way, why wouldn't they ride him.

We was running the ball so well, we didnt get more rushing touchdowns because we only had 25 rushes. And in the 4th, we shouldn't have had to even worry about the 4th, when the ball game was 14-7 is when we should have dominated the line of scrimmage! Then, in the 4th quarter the linemen for UCLA would have been sucking wind, and grass from getting put down in it. And i dont recall the 2 and three yard runs and getting stuffed on the 2nd down runs, because we didnt have any. Could someone find the stat of how many possesions we had, and how many times we ran the ball on 2nd down, you would be amazed.

almost 200 yards on 25 carries is much better then 186 yards on 41 pass attempts....anyone else agree?

Ok, but he hasn't been healthy and that has been a problem.

And i think you guys are misreading something, I really like him now after that game. It's just been that we've been wating for him to step up and for a long time, he didnt. He did last night, but at the start of last year, I would have listed him behind coker, foster, and creer
