Why did UT drop StubHub for Football Season?

This topic comes up a few times a season.

I've sold game tickets from my season ticket package for years. Sometimes higher than face value but usually at a loss.

People complain when the market price is higher than face. I've never had anyone offer to pay face value for a ticket a game like Austin Peay, western Kentucky, south Alabama. The buyer is then willing to pay only what the market price is.

There were times in the mid 2000's that I couldn't GIVE AWAY Bama Tickets. They were excellent seats also.

Just let me know instead of him..I'm just up the road in Lexington. We would gladly drive to Savannah before we head to the game!:)

Now that is a solution...the other guy just posting some smart*** remark without any clue as to problem or solution...

Now selling a barcode on Stubhub and then turning around and selling your hard ticket on the street is a problem. However if the person with the hard ticket got to the gate first, you'd still be charged 20% thru Stubhub bc their ticket was 'fraudulent.' Still....no benefit. If it happened the other way around the guy with the hard ticket would be screwed. I would think people wouldn't take the risk but there's plenty of scumbags out there and I hate that it happens.

If the seller sold the hard ticket through the Stubhub bar code system, the bar code on the hard ticket would then be invalid as the Stubhub buyer would be given a print at home ticket with a new bar code. The now invalid hard ticket could then be sold on the street and the seller would get away with a double sale as the hard ticket buyer would be left out of the game.

I think this was happening way too often on game day and is why UT is no longer using stubhub's bar code system.

I don't understand what the big deal is around requiring the actual ticket to be in the person's hand for entry. I only buy print at home tickets directly from UT - don't want to take the chance that I am denied entry.

Stubhub could also set up something like what they have at Alabama. I bought tickets to that game from them. I had to go to their game day location, less than 5 minutes from the stadium, show my id and get my tickets. That ensured me that no one else has a ticket with that bar code.

This should not prevent you from giving the actual ticket to friend and family and letting them use it as long as you don't put it in the resale system.

And one last thought - if UT plans to check ID, credit cards, etc. at the gates for EVERY ticket, they will need to open the gates a lot earlier than they do. No way they do all that and get 100k folks inside in 2 hours.

Then there is also us that did not pay with credit card and have more than one ticket. I can only use 1 so I do have to give the other one to a family member. I didn't give anyone's name but mine.

I think the changes are going to be to protect those that buy tickets from others. Shipping priority mail or UPS does not cost that much.

Not a big deal at all as print at home is so convenient. The discussion is around the statement in the OP about the UT ticket office doing away with the Stubhub bar code option.

What you're describing in Alabama is Stubhub's Last Minute Services. With the increase in demand for UT tickets and with Stubhub bar code transfer no longer available for hard tickets, I hope that Stubhub offers this service this season in Knoxville.
