Why did Ty Chandler leave ?

Bulk of carries at suspect program < Less carries at program that just sent a rb to NFL.

It’s the same problem people don’t understand about HT. ‘Why would he leave here when he would get all the tackles?’ The NFL doesn’t just look at stats, they look at how you’ve developed. Not a lot of recent history here of developing players

My guess would be he became skeptical of his path to the NFL. He had lost carries to Gray and knew we had promising upcoming freshmen, so he went somewhere that he had an opportunity to become “the guy”

Probably wasn’t a bad move at the time, but he would be the surefire starter in an offense that would utilize his pass-catching strengths had he stayed.

Also, Tommy Thigpen, who was coaching here when Chandler was here, moved to North Carolina in 2018. I think this was the connection for him to go there...
I think it was more Gillespie...who left for Bama.

Ty Chandler entered the portal with no idea of who the next staff would be. Maybe he was nervous of the RB stable. Maybe he was worried we would hire another defensive minded HC. He accepted his offer to UNC January 12th. Heupel was hired January 27th. Hind sight is 20/20 but he would have probably had one hell of a great final season in Heupel's system. Guy was true to us though. He gave his all while he was here and never did act like a cancer. I wish him the best and hope he beats Clemson.

Business decision. The guy wants to play in the league for a few years and UNC is producing NFL RB's lately.

My opinion on a lot of these transfers is that UT was a mess and the one time transfer rule and the extra year of eligibility gave these kids an opportunity to get away and have a fresh start somewhere else. I really can't blame them. With all the drama under Pruitt - paying players, firing coaches at halftime, the QB situation, and more - I imagine that locker room being a toxic place for a level headed athlete. It makes me think of the movie "The Program."
