Why did Nick Stephens get benched?

An article posted in another thread said it was due to his reaction afterwards - a lack of hustle. Stephens is quoted as saying he understands why he was pulled and he won't do what he did ever again.

He mouthed off once he got to the sidelines too

If that is the case, I understand, but 1 pick in 105 passes and Fulmer pulls him. Way to shatter his confidence COACH...and why oh why oh why did he put in Crompton?
I guess he wanted to make a point so Stephens wouldn't act up again

"if you act that way we'll just play crompton....how do you like that?"

Lack of hustle??? He was on his back until the guy was 20 yards down field. He would have to run a 2.0 40 to catch him.

Hustle??

he made no attempt to try and stop the int return, so they put in JC to show him how it was done...

i think it was how he reacted after the pick that landed him on the pine for a few drives. (except we dont go on drives anymore!)

Apparently it was Clawson not Fulmer that made the call and Stephens appears to be okay with the decision.

I figured his benching had more to do with what looked like mouthing off to a coach when he came off the field after the int

Lots more picks, just got lucky they weren't caught. He has gotten VERY lucky with his bad throws. There have been at least 2 passes each game that should have been intercepted, but were luckily dropped.

I'm guessing it had to be the mouthing off, because if was because of a "lack of hustle" then Clawson is stupid. Stephens was laid out on his back and by the time he got to his feet the play was already past him. Plus I wouldn't have wanted him to get hurt trying in vain to make a tackle.

Nick Stephens is a pretty terrible QB. The only reason he is our QB is because he "will not lose games for us."

Stephens will never be a QB who can be relied on to carry a team and win games. Hopefully, Stephens and Crompton will both be on the bench for the entirety of the 2009 season.
