Why did Coach Cutcliffe turn down the job before Pruitt was hired?

University instability. Look at the constant turnover/revolving door we’ve seen just with university presidents, chancellors and AD’s over the last 15-20 years. It’s the primary reason no reputable coach wants the job.

Why AD Hamilton would get involved in telling a potential coach who his assistants should be is beyond me.
I think he might have been either trying avoid the buyouts of some of those coaches or he had made promises he shouldn't have and was trying to force Cutcliffe to make good on them.

Either way, it was a horrible move. Cut is no Saban but we would have had a solid 9-10 win program that was run with integrity.

I think coach Cutcliffe could have won here.

No - just no - what is it with you guys ..... seriously.

What if we just dug up General Neyland's remains - found some dna in a sample of bone marrow .... etc. etc.
Coach Cutcliff in his prime was known as a notoriously awful recruiter. He is failing at Duke, he would have failed miserably here, Fulmer and/ Cutcliff and or Fulmer and or Cutcliff and Chavis are not coming back, nor would they do a go job.
While I am at it Manning doesn't have any eligablity left - Covid will not give him one more year to play in college.

I don't think he was asked before Pruitt was hired but when kiffin left he was going to take the job but Hamilton wouldn't let him bring his assistants. Didn't he say once something like he was tired of being Tennessee's fall back boy?
He turned down any interest in the job when Currie inquired.

He is 1 -8 in the ACC this year - one of only 3 or 4 coaches in the world doing as poorly as Pruitt -- seriously....you are giving me a headache. He should have never ever been even interviewed.

What's Randy Sanders doing ?

I live in the area and the interviews I've seen with him make it clear he and his wife have found their forever home. And this was clear from his early days at Duke. Imagine what his reduction of quality of life and life threatening stress would occur if he came to Tennessee.
