why can't we view Tennessee this way

Everytime butch Jones has been center stage he has failed n every sunshine sheep defends him..

He is our coach for two more yrs min if he makes a bowl but to blindly follow anyone is beyond me.

This staff has sent up some red flags.n if people haven't noticed them they know nothing about high performing employees.

The question is can he learn n overcome them because at this point Im not convinced he will ever win a championship
You are without a doubt, the most negative, anti Butch person on here. Why don't you do us all a favor and post your football resume so we can see if anything you say has any merit to it. I feel confident it does not. This staff has worked tirelessly to turn dooleys dumpster fire around and if you can't see improvement, the you must be one of the three blind mice.

My guess is that Mahoney wouldn't have lasted the last 8 years with Butch, if Butch didn't think that he could do a good job.

Depends on the $$ available. Mahoney might be what CBJ considers best for his allowance. To succeed in the pre-NFL ie SEC that may not be good enough.

Arkansas' only weakness is their QB and they still should have won against AL. They are way ahead of TN in rebuilding.

I think the point Butch keeps trying to make, and I keep mentioning with our alum group here when we watch games is, we'd like to be in a position where we don't have to play true Freshman, really at most any position, especially in the trenches. Anyone using Barnett as a rebuttal, come one. I love him. He's a fantastic talent with a great motor. You have a guy like that, and how can you not put him on the field? Well, if you have former 4 and 5* Jr/Sr DL'men, that's how. That's what Butch wants. He wants 18yo kids developing with off-season conditioning to get the bodies of SEC men during the season, while his team of RS Freshmen, Sophomores, Jrs, and Srs goes out and wins f'ing football games.

Take a look around the SEC. Take a look around the nation, any conference, any team, even mid-majors. No one is playing 23 Freshmen in the 2-deep. No one is starting 7 Freshmen in a game. UGa, UF, Bama, etc, they may have 1-2 standouts that are freakish enough to play/start/contribute as true Freshman because they are simply just too good to keep off the field, a la Eric Berry in '07 (do I have the year correct?). Other than that, you're not going to see many. Even Winston redshirted a year, and he was one of the most heralded recruits in the nation that year. That's called depth, and it takes program development to get to that point.

Arkansas had their crapshow a little further in their rearview mirror before Bielema arrived (the goofy guy who lost almost all his games was only one year, and didn't kick a bunch of players off the team a la Kiffin), so they didn't have attrition and depth issues that we did. People need to make like Aaron Rodgers and RELAX. What happened with the UT program is a bit of a special case. Not many teams had to endure waning talent leading up to '07, followed by 4 tumultuous bungled years of poor development and attrition to lead us to the point where we have to hang all our hopes this season largely on the performance of an entire Freshman class...all the while replacing all starters on both sides of the OL and DL (seriously, can anyone remember a team ever, any team ever, that that's happened to?? Seriously, maybe I'll even google it)!! We really have fought hard to even be in the spot we're in now. Next year will be twentysome more Freshman contributors, and more growing pains. '16 and '17 is where we will see the fruits of this timing-wise. We'll have upperclassmen out there who've been entrenched in this workman-like culture. And the new young studs, well they can redshirt and watch Barnett as a Jr go out and lay waste to opponent OL's while Sutton (if he's still around as a Sr) swats everything in sight like Darrelle Revis.

Can I get a hell yeah for that?

Hell yeah!!!!

Arkansas and the Vols have the same 6-6 record this year, the difference being Ark did it with a much easier OOC schedule winning 1 less SEC game then us.

While the Ole Miss win is a great W, I think LSU's offense is really inept (QB struggles) and that's still only 2 SEC wins.

But wait, they played bama close etc., I don't think that matters because it can't be argued at the end of the day those are moral victories, and last time I checked we have some of those too.

Here's how I see it:
CBB took over a team that was 1 year removed from an 11-2 record (Regardless of anything you say about our storied history, it's been 13 years since we've won 11 games, 7 yrs since we've won 10) and it took him 14 tries to win a single conference game.

We are in a better spot than Ark right now, partly because we are in the unquestionably weaker division (currently), and partly because of the defense we are building.

The ifs lie with the Offense particularly whether there is progress next year with the OL I guess? I personally think our offensive play calling would change a good bit and diversify from all the lateral throwing we see with an OL capable of providing time to throw longer developing routes occasionally, but thats a different topic.

Good thing we'll get to see first hand who's trending further upward next season, in a sea of Orange at Neyland. Wouldn't have it any other way.

I definitely view Tennessee as a team on the way back. No excuses but:
1) Fulmer, Kiffen and Dooley left nothing for CBJ...yes the offensive line went pro...but, they did not get it done as a team while here.
2) Loss of North to injury, AJ debacle, Loss of Center and torn this or sprained that has really been tough and an amazing credit to the grit of team 118 that we are 6-6.
3) As I wrote in the other thread on depth, it is coming. Be patient. Hate to quote the Bear but agree starting true freshman is a sign of problems.
4) My concern now is that some of the freshman like Sutton, Hurd and Barnett will be worn out as Seniors making them even more susceptible to career ending injuries. A man can only take so much physical beatings.

Arkansas beat two top 25 teams. How many top 25 teams did we beat?

I'm still all sunshine and rainbows right now. If next year we aren't challenging for the east...or at least in the conversation...I might have to rethink my position. Next year we should be bowl eligible by late October at the latest.

Did you even read the rest of my post?

We aren't arguing over who's in the CFB Playoff with top 25 wins haha who cares. They beat an overrated LSU team, who if you have watched, has one of the worst passing offenses in all of college football. It took Bielema 14 SEC games to even get a single conference win, and you're seriously jealous of this because...? they beat two top 25 teams?

You can bring up top 25 wins till you turn blue, but it won't change the fact that our record reads 3-5 SEC and theirs reads 2-6 SEC, and it isn't getting any easier for Arkansas in the West division.

Arkansas is on the right track. People must understand that Pittman has built that o-line. He didn't inherit it. 3 of the 5 starters are his guys, none of which are seniors. They have two very good RBs, and Chaney is a very good OC. Playing Arkansas next year isn't going to be a walk in the park. Their offense is only going to get better.[/QUOT
It will take our very best effort, coaches and players, to beat them. They will be looking for validation/redemption with a vengeance. Beware....
