Why cant we, TENNESSEE, land any of these top recruits?!

People, I follow our recruiting efforts RELIGIOUSLY! I could name 90% of our committed list without looking because I follow Volnation, Volquest, Scout, Rivals, 247 EVERYDAY. I know our recruits and their star ratings, profiles, other offers, etc. Again, like the poster above said, it will just take time and I have to be patient. Im a spoiled Vol that has been used to getting all those top 10 recruits back in the day. Patience is my problem...Ill admit lol

Just know this people, I would have never imagined the class that CJB has brought in....its almost a miracle!! Hell, even had Lauderdale and Booth at one point in time! I KNOW HES KILLING IT AND THAT WE HAVE TOP-TIER BLUE-CHIP RECRUITS! lol Again, Im just a bit envious of these top programs always reeling in the the De'shawn Hands, Khemdiches, etc..that's all!

At First I was like...

Straight answer to the OP.

Those top recruits will do one of two things. They will either be a homer for a school, usually in state, or they will go to the hot program.

If you had no loyalties to either school and could choose between a 5-7 team that got blown out 4 times and lost to Vandy or a team that just beat Bama and won the SEC to make it to the NC game... which do you choose, seriously?

IMHO, if the on the field performance had been better this year with a bowl game and closer games vs Oregon, Bama, Auburn, and Mizzou... The Vols would have been able to sell the direction of the program more effectively. This season left too many question marks. In light of that, the recruiting is absolutely outstanding.

Winning is vitally important when you want to pull those top players and are dependent on out of state recruiting. Not fair... but it is reality. Jones against the odds needs to show better on the field next fall or '15 will be MUCH tougher than '14 with regard to competing for top talent.

Why are you guys being rude to UTVolWarrior98, we are a family (VOLNATION) and you are putting down a brother just because he asked a question...? Normally a family is full of caring and this thread is NOT showing that. But to answer you question UTVolWarrior98 I think if we have a good turn out next year we will be back on the map.

If, and I mean IF you are being serious, I really appreciate the backup and rationale lol Some of these posters are Nazis! WE ALL LOVE OUR VOLS AT THE END OF THE DAY!!lol

Didnt Moseley win Defensive MVP in the NC-SC shrine bowl?

I dont think he's as much of a project as you think

I think he's very raw at the CB position. He has height, speed, and the ability to be an EE so that's why we offered, IMO.

Other than UT, his offers are Charlotte, ECU, NC A&T, and NC State.

On a normal roster, he would be a definite redshirt candidate. However, I think he'll be a ST contributor. Most likely a gunner.

I like the kid and I like the pickup.

You never want to depend on newly signed players in the SEC.

It isn't fair... but the missed opportunity to make a bowl game this year and the failure to sign a better class last February have hurt Jones' prospects of success significantly.

He's a great salesman but eventually you have to sell wins... not the hope of wins.

Its hard to tell sometimes. Sarcasm is the language for some of the posters. Others are just rude.

People get tired of certain posters that make constantly negative posts, especially ones that are uneducated. Especially when they make ignorant posts on the recruiting forum which is visited by recruits and families of recruits. It's embarrassing to our fans and disrespectful to the players coming in as part of our current class (#2 in the country I might add).

Moseley could end up really good. You can tell when he talks, he is a humble kid, hard working. He just needs some mass on him. I really think 25 lbs, possibly 20, and I think our S&C coach could make this guy a beast in a year. And without losing his top notch speed. He is pretty tall for CB, I love that. This could be the diamond in the rough.
Of course we will have to wait and see.

edit- plus apparently we have the worlds best Peanut Butter. And that's a great way to add some weight. Eat like three sandwiches before bed and you'll get some LBs. Trust me I eat like two a night lol. BTW, I love PB, I need to try this homemade ish

Playing time as a freshman is also important! If program "A" & Program "B" were on equal stages but one program could give me playing time as a freshman, then I likely go to that program.

Who wants to go to " O Bama" and red shirt as a freshman, then get special teams play as a freshman & mop up duty as a sophomore and then play as a junior & senior????

Come to U.T. and play immediately.... Eric Berry, Jay Graham, Casey Clausen, M. North, Eric Ainge, Juwan James, Cosey Coleman, Brent Shafer, etc. etc....

If most of the pieces are in place, then landing that one key recruit could change the direction of a program.......

A dominant running back. A dominant wide receiver, A dominant q.b. or an accurate kicker, or a sack happy defensive lineman can change the direction of a program IF all the other pieces are in place on the team.....

In certain circumstances, sure, what you're saying makes some sense. But staying relevant, we don't have those other pieces in place, so landing Adoree Jackson this year will not make us SEC contenders next year.

What if Hurd did not get hurt maybe what 1 or 2 in the nation, and top 20 over all, plus give coach a little more time to build relationships with the players and coaches, then we will make maybe meet your demands.

Guys, we all of course know the obvious reason..the last 5 tempestuous years! But, even with that said, we are still THE UNIVERSITY OF TENNESSEE VOLUNTEERS! We are a top 10 program of all time with a ton of tradition. Yes, the Kiffin and Dooley expeiments are a big part of our demise. But, since CBJ has arrived and has turned things around recruiting wise, we STILL are not able to land a lot of these top blue-chip recruits! Look at Devonte Lambert for example. Now that is a recruit we DESPERATELY needed! We actually pulled him in only for him to break our hearts and bolt for Auburn! Its almost as if you knew it was coming...because Tennessee doesn't usually pull in those coveted recruits. Its almost as if Devonte said "Whooah...Im going to TN....wait a minute...what am I doing?!" Its like he realized he was almost too good to play for TN and went to a program that reels in big-time recruits.

Look at Carl Lawson from last year. You knew deep down that a recruit of that caliber was going to spurn us!! Bo Scarborough....here's another big-time stud recruit CONSIDERING us, but probably wont come here. The Speedy Noils, Fournettes, Tony Browns, Damien Mamas, Adoree Jacksons, Jabril Peppers, David Cornwells, etc.....WHY CANT WE LAND ANY OF THESE guys?!

Yes, we have landed top recruits like Malone, Hurd, Helm in this class, but it still seems as if the top 30 recruits are waaaay out of our league and it bothers me!! Ole Miss, Clemson, ND, Auburn, etc....what do these programs have that we don't? Yes, I know we have struggled and have had coaching and roster attrition, but we are still Tennessee and should be able sway one of these types of recruits. Devonte Lambert was one of those recruits. Its just frustrating seeing all of these mediocre programs reeling in all these program changing recruits while we land just solid recruits!

Ill say this....my mindset will change if we land Adoree Jackson or/and Darrell Scott. That would prove me wrong and I hope to god it happens!

How can anyone believe you closely follow recruiting with your posts in this thread? Several people have pointed out reasons why we aren't landing some of the aforementioned recruits.

If you followed recruiting, you'd realize that any team that has had two 5-7 seasons in a row, and on a national stage has been irrelevant for the past 5+ years, would struggle in recruiting. That is why what Butch is doing is pretty remarkable, and he hasn't even been here a year.

We had Lauderdale and Booth? If you followed recruiting, you would realize that landing Pearson and Malone trumps that pair any day.

When your little brother starts spazzing out, slobbering and talking Klingon in front of family and friends, your responsibility as older brother, is to box his little butch head and cut off his airflow for a few seconds...so's he doesn't do it in the future and scare off girls :)

First OP you make a stupid post and duck for cover, then you add insult to injury by calling some of us Nazis, what did you expect would happen? My advice is STFU.

This is the worst thread i've ever seen on here, shouldn't there be an IQ limit before you start a thread.
