I'll try to be understanding here. This guy is a vol fan and that's awesome but he either doesn't get the time or doesn't put in the effort to follow things like recruiting that most of us do. All of which is understandable. But when you get on here to go on a rant and be really far off base, it just looks bad. For us that's kept up with recruiting we understand that this staff has recruited better than we have in a long time. Maybe save the shenanigan posts for when you actually have a base to go on.

Thaaaaaank you man, I appreciate the CIVILIZED, EDUCATED answer to my post! lol So there are still some nice people on VN.

I get it man, wanting to be where we once were. Getting top ten guys and everything.
We just have to stay patient, hope for a bowl, 7-8 wins maximum, IMO, and that's going to be hard with our schedule once again being probably top 2 hardest in the country.
If we can reach a bowl, CBJ will be able to sell the shiz out of that, considering what he has done with this past year. Success, and these quality kids who recruit just as much as the coaches will get us back in the thick of it.
I never thought Malone would be coming here, definitely after the last few games of QB play. He has the potential to be great, has everything a WR could want: his work ethic is amazing, as is the whole class. This is it. We just have to ride it out.

This is what you are missing, Those type of recruits are already choosing us. Except CBJ got them locked up early so we aren't getting any big time guys late in the year. We have two top-30 players in Hurd and Malone. And you mentioned Scarbrough not choosing us earlier. Hurd is ranked higher than him!

Dude, they already are. Hurd, Malone, Pearson, Kelly, Bates and Hendrix are all blue-chip recruits who could play for literally anybody in the country. You could make a solid argument for several others as well.

We're never going to get every single one of them. Sorry - doesn't work that way. But this year, we got our share and then some - we can win games in the SEC with the class we're bringing in.

A few things for OP.

1. Those schools have been recruiting those guys a lot longer than Butch has. Remember, Butch has been here for slightly over a year now.

2. Those big time recruits often like to go to the winning programs. A lot of them want to play in the NC. Notice how Bama kids flipped once they lost to Auburn. UF started losing recruits after their horrible season.

3. Kids often like to stay in their homestate (or close to it). Thats why we have Hurd and Malone. Bama, Louisianna, Florida, etc. often have the higher rated recruits in their state.

4. Carl Lawson was committed to AU before we even got in the hunt.

Basically what he's getting at is that our class has started off so strong that we don't have spots left... So at the end of the year you're seeing all these top recruits left pick everyone but Tennessee. Look at the all-American games for example. It's all LSU, Bama, A&M, Miami, Florida State, Auburn... That's not to say our class isn't top tier... It's just that we're not shaking things up on the recruiting trail late in the game.

I see what you mean here. Here's the thing though: we're seeing a little bit different recruiting philosophy than we are used to. In July we were always complaining about having 4 guys committed and 2 of those guys were still taking visits. Now, we lock everybody up early and spent that extra time we have later in the process on 1 or 2 guys and devote a ton of time to them. Even better though, we get a huge jump start on recruiting for the next year. I think we'll start to see the fruits of that come next cycle when we are in on a lot of guys that we wouldn't have been if we didn't have the time to spend on them early. I like this style much better than before. Does it make January a little boring? Sure. But I think it's going to work out better for us in the long run.

Tennessee Coaches have their own Recruiting Board that they look at to target and rank players according to need.. You are looking at a recruiting sites ranking of the top players in the nation.. College coaches don't utilize these 3rd party recruiting sites to figure out which players to pursue.. Our Coaches do their own evaluations. We nabbed Malone, Hurd , Moseley, just to name a few, all top players in TN.. Sure We didn't make alot of noise in the Rivals Top 50.. But I believe that WE GOT EVERYBODY WE WAS SUPPOSED TO GET and filled positions of need on both sides of the ball..

Coach Jones has been recruiting at TN for almost 13 Months.. And Currently holding onto the #2 Recruiting Class.. Are You Not Entertained! I'd be satisfied with a top 25 class after the performance we put on this past season.. Don't Panic Keep Calm.. Next thing u knw posters on volnation will be calling for his job if we don't land Jackson..

Seriously? We have these type of recruits this year. Per Rivals, they rank 28 five stars. We have 2, which is tied for second with A&M, UVA, and Auburn. Alabama leads with 4, but Scarbrough is questionable. Except for wanting attention, I question your definition of "these types of recruits."
