Why cant we put it all together

We have years where the offense is dominant but the defense is just so so, and we have years the defense is dominating, but the offense is so so.
What does it take to put the whole package together?

I really believe that the way we played Saturday would have been good enough to beat the majority of the teams in the top 25. UGA just has our number and a better roster top to bottom. I think it is pretty safe to say that our defense won't be a top ten unit like it was last year but rather more opportunistic in creating TOs, sacking the QB, and pressures. The loss to UGA sucked, however, we should be encouraged that we can score on the remaining teams on our schedule. The defense needs key contributors to get healthy for the remainder of the season along with significant improvement if we want to be a playoff team.

At this point, the UAB can't get here fast enough............time to focus on the next opponent.




still a lot of season left, we didn't fall in the polls and injured starters should start coming back in time for Bama/Floria/OU.

I also think the 2024 Defense was overrated to a degree. It got shredded by Georgia and Ohio State. We played a lot of teams that were breaking in new QBs or had bad QB play in 2024. I still think it was a good defense, but it wasn't great enough.

The defense last year tackled much better for the most part compared to this years unit. Hopefully there is improvement as the season progresses.

I think w/ NIL/transfer portal, the talent spread is keeping teams from being able to do this....unless you hit it right in one year, or you're OSU/UGA who has 4 years of two deep 5* talent stacked...and even they are more challenged to outright dominate like in the past. I don't know if this is all bad news...it means we're closer to being at the top, but there's no less than 8-10 SEC teams in the same situation.

Agree 💯. Last year's defense was not elite as many claimed. Good yes, great no. The only 2 good teams made them look bad.

I thought about that also. Man if we had Joey A. at QB last year, i think the Vols would of had a great chance to win it all. That defense last year was good.

We’re down the top CB in America and another CB that graded out nearly as high as McCoy did. We are also down a starting DT and another potential starting DT. We don’t have the kind of depth to replace those 4 and beat top tier teams. We are getting closer every year though. I guarantee that if we had 1 of those 4 playing Saturday, we win. Thats how razor thing the margins were.

Might be wrong, but I read somewhere that UT just "thuds" in practice, but UGA has real tackling in practice. Guess it's easier to do when you've got their kind of roster, but they were a much, much better tackling team.
