Why can UT not hire a football coach efficiently?

And to answer this straight up.

Its confusing. I have no faith in the administration and that leads me to believe they screw it up.

But Its football and not my whole life, so I hold out a little optimism, hope and excitement during these coaching searches, and during season even when I know its gonna suck.

Seriously, if I felt the same about this program that many here seem to, I'd stop watching it. I mean, they say they're just being honest about the reality of it, but as much as they're here and all they do is talk about the chit......I mean, what is enjoyable about being that miserable? All the time?
There’s absolutely nothing enjoyable about it... unfortunately being a vol fan isn’t a choice for me, I always will be through good and bad... yep it’s just football, however this is a football forum so this is where I come to voice my frustration over the team... really the only reason I’m frustrated is because I know we could be so much better. It’s really sad that the UT admin is content ripping loyal vol fans everywhere off, at a certain point if you have any moral compass at all you would start to feel horrible about the way you constantly dupe our fanbase and not only rob them of their money but also of any entertainment from UT football... I have nothing against Pruitt at all, I’m far from sold on him but I sure do hope he works out. Anyway if you guys want to hear about how good my life is I’d be glad to tell you:) since I kind of doubt anyone cares I’ll stick to talking about Tennessee football on the Tennessee football forum :)

Having been involved in decisions at a high level as many of you have I think there was only one way to REALLY SCREW UP A GAME CHANGING DECISION and that was to make it in haste. Actually I cant recall a decision made with care, thought, and time turn out to be the wrong one but I can think of plenty that were made in haste, fear, and ignorance that were terribly wrong....JMO of course...

I just don't see why it's such a big deal. Pruitt wants a balanced offense with a power running game that creates explosive plays off play action. So, the requirements for whoever he hires will be to follow that blueprint.

I could probably be convinced otherwise, but it's just not causing me any anxiety right now. Early signing day next week is a much bigger deal, imo. We need to get signatures from a lot of these guys we have committed.
I guess you don't have as bad a case of BVS as some of us. This all looks too familiar to me.

This is exactly how I feel about it. The optimist in me hopes that the Legion of Miserables (I'm going to keep using it until it sticks) is using this forum to channel all their negative vibes so that they stay out of their real lives. If some of these people see the rest of life the way they see UT Football and actually communicate like they do here, I don't see how they could keep a job, or stay married or even order a meal in a restaurant.

You don’t understand how someone can see the suck in UT football as the rest of the country plainly sees? Reality isn’t a “negative vibe”, it’s what UT has been for a decade.

I fully understand the state of the program. I just don't understand why some people are do driven to incessantly harp on everything negative. It's one thing to be honest about where the program is, but we have a group of people on here that just make crap up to complain about.

I probably won't start worrying. Life won't end on the revelation of our new OC. Our last truly solid OC was Cutcliff. We could have brought him back immediately as HC. But, we didn't. And he has proven at Duke now much he could have done and carried on with UT. and I'm still getting up every morning.
Does worrying about stuff affect you that profoundly? I hope you don't hand kids.

Because in the last 10 years we’ve decided that the hind tit is good enough.

I’m not including JP in this. I have hope for him.

I'm just hoping CJP dosen't walk some unknown up and comer to the podium and try to sell us "one of the brightest young minds in football", blah, blah.
Maybe he has an ace up his sleeve, but as fans we've seen this movie played out several times and the ending usually sux.
If it's not a NFL guy at this point we're probably screwed. If it is an NFL guy just say it, " were in contract discussions with someone at the next level" It would give the living fans something to get excited about, not to mention the living recruits.

Lastly, the notion JP is telling a recruit who the new OC will be is hogwash. How long do you think a high school kid would keep his mouth shut? 5 mins, max

Don't pee on my leg and tell me it's raining.

You may enjoy this, we lost 41-0 the following weekend because of these reporters being "negative":

Every other team in the country seems to be able to handle this process quickly and efficiently, but every coaching hire here turns into a drawn out circus. I know reports are out that Pruitt has his guy, but all of this reeks of interference from somewhere....Fulmer, Boyd, Haslam, BOT, somebody. Pruitt likely knew of Helton's departure for months and it sounded like he had a short list very quickly. I know that everybody is coming out and saying this is Pruitt's decision, but I'm not buying it. Someone has to be interfering and I'm raising the question of who? My personal opinion is Fulmer but that is just tea leaf reading.
If you look at most searches, the new hire was not someone that was a quick, spur of the moment decision. Most had been in the works for weeks before they became public knowledge. What may appear to be fast may have taken a very long time to reach fruition.

Because we hired a guy who thinks he’s Nick Saban, but in reality just got smoked in six games by over 25 points. He seems to think he can dictate to high level OCs that they have to use his buddy as their OL coach. You know, the guy that presided over the worst OL in UT history. This is a rookie coach with an unrealistic understanding of where he is on the higharchy of coaches and total misunderstanding about where this football program stands.
He got smoked with the same team that performed even worse the year before. But, of course, we should have won the east and challenged Bama in his first year.

The year before they only lost 3 games by 20 or more. Just sayin.

Haha, the ole "true fan" and "its a football forum so I'll vent my frustrations on the football forum" schtick.

I told you it was confusing, and maybe I didn't explain it well enough, but instead of trying to understand where I was going, you did what most do and think the worst. That's cool though.

The funny part of this exchange is, IMO you got a little defensive as if I was talking about you. I'm not familiar with you or your posts. The posters I was talking about, I can name. I did exaggerate a bit by saying "many", its really only about 4-6.

I'll remember you going forward Alex, and look forward to talking to you again.

What if we end up with an upgrade at OC?

I mean who wouldn’t want the job? Irrelevant program that keeps losing to Vandy. Terrible o-line. Terrible QB. A HC who has two years left to prove himself. Hell this job sells itself.

So apparently we already have our OC right?

Then why aren't they announced yet?

When Pruitt was hired, he was still "on staff as DC at Bama"... and he was hired to be an Head Coach. This is an OC position.

This makes me feel like we don't have anyone yet.
Maybe they just like messing with the fan base.

Maybe its Friend and they don't want the fan base to revolt this close to early signing period....
