Well, from what I can decipher. This team is bipolar on defense. Instead of the standard defensive coordinator calling a combined defensive effort. This team calls a front 7 defense that the back 4 must then adjust to. I know this doesn't sound particularly bad, but it is. Instead of one mind thinking as a whole, if the coaches aren't thinking exactly on point, you get cracks in the defense where the overlap should be. When I heard Pruitt describing this method, my only thought was....Stupid.
Why reinvent the wheel? To me, this is a guy who simply doesn't grasp what it is to be the head coach. He wants to be the coordinator, but only partly, he doesn't want to know what the offense is doing, he can't determine a coaches personality or style until he's 4 games into a season. Let's be honest. Pruitt may eventually, with lots of seasoning become a head coach, he clearly isn't one right now. Tennessee deserves a head coach, we are not a training facility. That's what group of 5 or lower schools are for.
