Why Butch Jones had nothing and EVERYTHING to do w/the loss to Bama

Pruitt saying what he did wasn't a "rookie mistake" in my opinion. And its pretty funny you "experts" saying it was. Of course, that's my opinion too. Lol. Smdh. Bunch of softies up in here.
The origin of the thin skin isnt to hard to trace if you look hard enough.

And some of us need to "move on" .
Lol

Seeing Sgt. Carter puffing on a stogie after the game really ticked me off. He acted like the hero who had been treated poorly and was enjoying his redemption.

Boy butch had this team for five years-he was no longer able to blame the "dumpster fire" he was given as an excuse. What happened? Boy butch left the Vols in the worst shape that we have ever been in (modern times). Along comes CP, IMHO is has already out coached butch, he [CP] is spending at least half his time trying to undo the damage done by the worst coach in UT History. Our players started this season Out of Shape, the new zillion dollar weight room (formerly headed by one of boy butch's buddies) is still almost new-as if most of our players didn't even know it existed, and it showed. Bama is a powerhouse maybe the best team they've ever had, is butch the reason we lost, NO, but, is butch the reason we are in the shape we're in right now, Yes- most of this does fall on him-these are butch's recruits, CP is getting a handle on this mess, but he'll need more than one season.

I wonder the same thing and time will tell but consider this. I kept wavering on weather cjp lost this team or ever had the team. Cjp has pretty much coached nothing but great athletes mostly motivated. Not the case at UT. When bj first took over tn looked excited to play but probably for all the wrong reasons.

Cjp dosen't have these guys jumpin around all crazy but they are not giving up. Probably because he is doing this the "right way." I like that cjp has spent a lifetime around football. I am more confident he knows football players better than a trumpet player. Time will tell starting with scjr.

Most of these guys are used to being coached by a soft coach who handed out participation trophies and probably sparkly star stickers for showing up and behaving.

It's like being your boss' favorite employee and getting away with things, and then boss gets fired and you get a new hard azz boss who wants things done right.

I really hope my boss doesn't get transferred / fired lol. 😉

Well those players will leave if it’s a problem for them. What I think is telling is Warrior reiterated what Pruitt said.

Some guys just aren’t playing like they should and others are. These players can see who the weak links are and eventually those links will be cut out.

If Warrior hadn’t come out and agreed with Pruitt then yeah you’d have a point about all this but if another player is calling out some of the ones who aren’t doing their job right then that’s a different story.

I don’t think we ever saw something like while Jones was here.

Also I don’t see neither UK or Vandy putting up 50 on us, we’d have to have another repeat of the UF game for that to happen

It was still a mistake. The one thing you never do as head coach is let your team believe that he's not down there in the trenches with them. Whether they are outnumbered or not. It's us against the world, come hell or high water. When I heard it I flinched a little. That stuff can sound like you want to make sure the public knows it's not the coaches stinking the place up.

Frankly, this stuff should have never made it's way to a microphone. For a guy that wants to get the last bit of juice from this orange, it was a very rookie mistake.
Scott Frost said about the same thing after a loss to the media this year.

It's a call to arms. Get off your ass or get out of the way.
These kids ain't stupid they know who's willing and who's not or havent been. Those that have jumped on board are not gonna be taken back by that. If anything it tells them this cat has my back because of what I'm doing and isnt gonna sacrafice my efforts for half ass attitudes.

This wasnt created Pruitt but rather the band guy before him. He left a toxic fire that some wont get out of. The quicker they're gone the better.

Isn't this the same team and the same guys that just beat Auburn on the Plains? Aren't these the same guys that Pruitt got all emotional about after the Georgia loss for their grit and fight? They played hard for him Saturday for 4 quarters and Bama fans will give them that.

This was a huge lapse in judgment and frankly, you can't coach a lack of talent and size if that's the problem, but you can coach your team to play better than their individual pieces. And by the way, that is Pruitt's job. Tennessee doesn't have another team on the roster that will remotely look like Bama. And Tennessee doesn't play another team this season that has as much talent as Auburn.

Nothing toxic about the fight in the vols and if I had to guess, that disappointment on Fulmer's face during Pruitt's interview was more about his HCs unfortunate comments than the vols effort against the Tide.

I personally believe Butch had everything to do with the loss. I think it is shameful for him to overplay his enthusiasm since the beatdown was directly attributible to his neglect of development of many players on our team. However. He has has set himself up perfectly for his comeuppance when we are finally able to stand toe to toe with the Bamas and the Jawjuhs. It will be sweet, indeed, to play "Butch's team" with a Vol team that has been cleansed of his influence. Sweet, indeed.

Same team?

Yes, the same group of kids "doing it the right way" this weekend were the same ones that went to AU last week and won.

Emotional?

Yes, the same group of players mentioned above were that same that had Pruitt choked up after a great effort against UGA where UT started to turn the corner in the second half.

And unless some others decided to change course that same group will be responsible for whatever good happens the last 5 games.

Hes not talking about that group. His comments were more to the tune of " train leaving the station, for those who havent boarded". You re running out of trains if you want to ever contribute here.

Two wrongs don't make a right.
He called no one out by name what he did was he did 3 things.1 threw a upper cut at Butch 2, let recruits know we need them 3rd, let the men on the team that give there all know that he has there back and he is going to help them and get them some team players to help.

He had everything to do with the talent difference between these two teams. With the recruiting budget Tennessee has the gap shouldn't have been this far. He'a a absolute joke of a coach and Tennessee managed to find him. Why am i not surprised by that. Guy should of walked out of there with his head down. Instead he acted like he had something to do with Bama's success. He's just a con man, who conned UT out of a lot of money. To his credit though he found some people dumber than him to pay it too him.

You don't leave that impression when a reporter at halftime ask you what needs to be done in the second half and you talk about another recruiting cycle. Nothing specific about that and frankly, that smacks of yeah, it's bad, but it's not me, honest.

He specifically and intentionally talked about 2 different groups of players and didnt call out in individual players.

Its faux outrage at its best

After watching this video you can tell Warrior is pissed with certain players, especially on offense. I think if he had a chance to say what he wanted without repercussion he would've said a lot worse about some of those players than what Pruitt said.

It also seemed like he stopped himself from calling people by name at the beginning of the video. You can see these two guys get it and would follow Pruitt through anything and now they want others with them.

And frankly that's the truth.

I have some warriors but not enough.

And to that he has freely criticized his own decisions as well as the staff. Hes a far, far cry from the band guy that actually thought he was wrongly terminated.

We are halfway into the season. It's a little late to be adjusting to CJP's system at this point.

No kidding but see what happen in a bye week. It is going to take a year or two and a recruiting cycle or two.

CJP only had a spring practice and the fall session to put a team on the field that required a lot of retraining because the previous staff taught a lot of bad techniques and habits or to put it bluntly could not coach at this level. A lot of micromanagement did not help either.

Do you think CJP kicks a FG against Oklahoma on the 1 inch line or punches it into the endzone. Jones had the mentality of a loser.

That was when i knew we had a loser for a coach.

Those that have bought in (which he did mention) will not hear that perception of the message because they are already on the bus. Those who havent 7 games into the season wont and they have been put on notice. Your not motivating and winning games with that group, your doing it with the first and those that are "doing it right" will buy into to his promise to give them competitive teammates to fight with in the future.

It was perfectly stated for those that understand the dynamics of the trainwreck hes cleaning up. The thin skinned crowd will move forward worried about whether he hurt some kids feelings (none of which he named) that will not contribute to any future success in this program anyway.

His obstacle is getting as many as he can as quick as he can because the band guy didnt leave much.
Best post on this thread! I agree 100%.
