Why Bryce Brown MUST start

no way brown starts the first game, i just dont see how kiffin could do that to the guys we've got now who he has done nothing but praise all spring. id love to see him on the field anywhere during the first game, i just dont think he will be in the backfield

If he is better than those guys, he should start.

I hope to see BB lined up at tailback, slot, WR even run some end arounds and and reverses....imagine the fits that a DC would have to prepare for ...even if he was used as a decoy some...line him up at WR and draw double coverage...Obviously I believe BB is more than a decoy but that would make defenses honest

How many true freshmen are used as decoys?

And why would would the defense double cover a true freshman rb lined up as a receiver?

that is a great thought...I know I am stating the obvious here, but teams are not worried about our pass nearly as much as used to be so put Brown at some WR and let him get people worried about that big threat...I love it!

DCs are not going to be worried about the pass as long as JC is behind center...would you? I would put at least 8 in the box...I truly believe that once NS's wrist gets stronger and the staff feels confident that he can zip it ..then NS will finish out the yr.

You may have to remove the healthy dose of Creer. From the sound of it, he will not be on the team this fall.

Yes, sounds like you are correct. Thats unfortunate, but I guess you cant blame the kid if he wants to go elsewhere to ensure he will play. the running back position is definately not lacking in competition. I kinda figured someone would bail.

I wouldnt actually classify BB as just any true freshman...this is a different case here

Alright but an experienced db is not going to have trouble covering BB one on one.

It would be far better to, like you said, match him up with linebackers out of the backfield as opposed to wr.

Nuke would be far more effective in the slot.

I agree nuke would be a great mismatch..but if you watch the clips on BB in the army all american game...he LEFT the dbs in that game and had them beat by at least 5 yards...so IMO I believe that he will give almost every DB in the sec problems..what was his 40..4.3?

He was playing against high school seniors. Experienced SEC DB's will be able to cover him one-on-one.

If you look at some of the times from the NFL Combine, there is no way he runs a 4.3.

in time he could/should evolve into what you are talking about.

Alright really guys. Kiffin said that the best players, regardless of seniority, will start and get playing time. If BB shows up when he gets on campus and is the best RB during practice, he will start. It is far to early to have this argument now though, cause there is still a possibility that he may come on campus and be a dissapointment, though i doubt it.

Brown does't want to be the hero. He wants to share reps with other backs. Starting players based on last year's productivity is a recipe for disaster. In this game, its all about, "What have you done for me lately?"

Our coaching can wear the brunt of last year's 5-7 blunder. We've got talent, but most of it wasn't developed properly (coaching). We've got guys who have a chance at a rebirth with this new staff of coaches.

If Brown turns out to be the workhorse, so be it. However, don't hand him the ball simply because Hardesty or Creer didn't play in a bowl game last year.

Does anyone not think Brown will be the starter by the end of the year?

IMO they are going to be pulling all stops to get the offense turned around, if that means starting a true freshmen so be it. Kiffin didn't recruit the other, there's limited loyalty, he's going to play the best player.

How often does the top player in high school football go on to be a bust? Not often.

so you think our passing game will dramatically improve with NS? If so how long do you think until he takes over? Will lining BB in the slot matter for him?

just curious about your thoughts

Why he must start

B/c our two other backs aren't consistently good? and Hardesty seems to get an performance-impairing injury every season...

If you had to run through the O-line that Hardesty has to, you'd be hurt all of the time too. They better save BB until we get a line that can block for him.

I have come to the conclusion that for the most part just about any coach can win with the right players on th team. The way Tennessee's program has gone into the default mode as of late, change is defintely needed. One way to re-build a solid program is to recruit the best and let them start. Afford them that chance or else we may have trouble recruiting other great players. Everyone on Tennessee's team had a chance to have a better than 5-7 record and they all failed miserably, except a few players.I feel bad for Hardesty but I think this is the route the new Tennessee has to travel.

I get the impression that Kiffin behind the scenes basically cant wait to usher in his players and clean out alot of what we have. However he has to be VERY politically correct in doing so. Some of our starters/regulars such as Berry are no brainers...the others including Hardesty are a 5-7 team....So the faster people leave and the faster the new guys step up...the faster the transformation begins...you gotta sweep out some trash every now and then...and this is what they are doing obviously...So yes...Brown should start, let him get his freshmen season behind him and hopefully win some games in doing so....
