Why all the Manning hate?

I am from Indiana, so I'm a born Colts fan, not a bandwagon fan. Love Vols in SEC & Ohio State in Big Ten.

I was a bandwagon jumper one time, and I hurt my leg, but it was worth it to see Tebow cry like a baby!

I live in Coffee county. There are more bama fans here it seems, but the funny thing is, most of the bama and Vols fans love Peyton.

Sure I love Peyton he is great, but honestly I'd much rather watch college football.

This is the most absurd and stupid thread I've seen since I've joined volnation. What sane Tennessee fan would hate /dislike Peyton Manning in any way? I urge whoever started this to take a look at this website Peyton Manning's College Stats Page

In addition to all of the positive attention he brought with his play during college, he has enjoyed continued success in the pros. He will be a first ballot hall of famer. He is an incredible ambassador to the University and especially the football team. I'm embarrassed that this thread has even been started and if you don't like Peyton Manning and do not appreciate everything he has done for our team and this program, go cheer for someone else.

is this a joke?

i imagine the OP read the "Best Vol everrrrrrr" thread the other day and saw a few people say Reggie White was the best. somehow that computes to people hating Peyton Manning.

i never got the impression that the mannings felt their college coaches failed them....college football is the best....

I understand all this... and I have almost thrown away my Broncos stuff because teblow is now there. I don't think I can ever pull for that guy....

that being said though.. I am more of a Colts fan these days anyway too.

Maybe "hate" is a strong word, but I've wondered recently why so many Tennessee fans dislike Peyton Manning, even though he played for us. Can the people who don't like Manning shine some light as to why? I think I got a theory, but I'll wait for some responses to say what I think it is.

those that dislike is likely one of two reasons, maybe both.

Fulmer supporter....

Made a huge push for Cutcliffe to replace Kiffin

How about you read the whole thread and my comments before bashing me! I am not, repeat NOT, one of the people I was talking about. I love Peyton for everything he did and continues to do for this organization. He is one of the best QB's ever in college football and will definately be a hall of famer in the pros. I am certainly not a Peyton "hater", but I know of Tennessee fans that do not like him and that if their were any here I wanted to know what possible reasons that there would be for why since he did so much for Tennessee. I see now that the people I was talking about probably don't like him because they are more than likely Titans fans. I don't talk to these people about the NFL because I am a Denver fan and don't keep track of local teams and the Tennessee/Indianapolis rivalry, so I wouldn't be able to contribute to the conversation on the subject. I figure no one knows anything about the Broncos since they are so far away so I just stick to talking about the Vols.

I don't dislike Manning at all, but as a Titans fan it does bug me that people around here choose to jump on the Colts banwagon rather than support the hometown team.

The Titans will see a dramatic increase in fans once the Colts lose Manning and enter the cellar they would be in without Manning. The bandwagon fans will promptly jump off. It's a shame they've only won one super bowl. Maybe if they drafted a defensive player every once in a while Manning would be sporting as many rings as Brady.

I've never gotten the impression that there was some undercurrent of anti-Manning feeling. Quite the opposite: an overt love for our most famous former player. As for me, Peyton is what is right with sports and with Tennessee. He's a winner who still manages to maintain his dignity and good conduct. He gives back to the community and to his alma mater specifically.

When it comes to the NFL, I'm a Titans fan, but when they play the Colts, I have one of those crisis of conscience moments. I can't root against Peyton, so I just watch the game in a tense silence. Go Peyton! Go Titans! And most importantly Go Vols!

Respectfully disagree.

Johnson outplayed Manning in '97.

Didn't superior coaching have a little something to do with that?

Peyton is obviously a better QB than any florida has had, he can't win games by himself though. Was it the 97 game where he had a few seconds before the pocket collapsed due to a line that couldn't protect him while the brilliant Chavis refused to put heat on the florida QB?

I love the Titans fans that hate on people for liking the colts just because of PM. But Titans fans only root for the Titans because it was the NFL team whose owner happened to want a new stadium in Houston at the time and couldn't get it. Plus it's not like the Titans have been around for a long time, they only moved to Nashville in 98, the same year PM started in Indy. Both titans and colts fans in tennessee pull for their respective teams for completely arbitrary reasons

Stats are good for the individual but they don't always win games, and I've watched football through the Johnny Majors years. The part that shames me is the one that showed true greatness at UT is coaching in Kentucky right now.

First off...I'm a Dallas Cowboys fan--have been since I was 4, which was 1984. I always pull for any Volunteer in the NFL as long as they aren't playing my 'Boys. I still want them to have successful games, just not win.

Now on to your silly comments...

Tee Martin could be considered the more successful college QB due to the fact that he won a national championship, but it is completely asinine to say he is the one that showed true greatness. Peyton Manning is greatness personified in both the NFL and when he was in Knoxville. Completely ridiculous for you to argue otherwise. PM is the greatest QB to ever don the pads for the University of Tennessee. Period.
