Maybe "hate" is a strong word, but I've wondered recently why so many Tennessee fans dislike Peyton Manning, even though he played for us. Can the people who don't like Manning shine some light as to why? I think I got a theory, but I'll wait for some responses to say what I think it is.
This is the most absurd and stupid thread I've seen since I've joined volnation. What sane Tennessee fan would hate /dislike Peyton Manning in any way? I urge whoever started this to take a look at this website Peyton Manning's College Stats Page
In addition to all of the positive attention he brought with his play during college, he has enjoyed continued success in the pros. He will be a first ballot hall of famer. He is an incredible ambassador to the University and especially the football team. I'm embarrassed that this thread has even been started and if you don't like Peyton Manning and do not appreciate everything he has done for our team and this program, go cheer for someone else.
V,B!
Respectfully disagree.
Johnson outplayed Manning in '97.

I've never gotten the impression that there was some undercurrent of anti-Manning feeling. Quite the opposite: an overt love for our most famous former player. As for me, Peyton is what is right with sports and with Tennessee. He's a winner who still manages to maintain his dignity and good conduct. He gives back to the community and to his alma mater specifically.
When it comes to the NFL, I'm a Titans fan, but when they play the Colts, I have one of those crisis of conscience moments. I can't root against Peyton, so I just watch the game in a tense silence. Go Peyton! Go Titans! And most importantly Go Vols!
Stats are good for the individual but they don't always win games, and I've watched football through the Johnny Majors years. The part that shames me is the one that showed true greatness at UT is coaching in Kentucky right now.
