Why all the 5* misses?

What is it gonna take to land some 5 stars other than recievers
Improvement on defense. We can't get improvement on defense until we get better talent, and we can get better talent until we show improvement on defense. Hopefully no one that started in the secondary last year will see the field this year, or at least have a very short leash.

Proving that our defense knows what it's doing, specifically in the secondary. They've HAVE TO get more consistent series stops, 3 & outs, etc. Until then, we're gonna be viewed as a offense-first school, and the elite corners and other DB's we're missing on won't want to play here for (what I would assume at least) lack of development to get them to the NFL, where other schools thrive on Defense.

There's about 30 "5 stars" per year, per recruiting cycle. Kind of silly if you ask me to expect to fill a class with multiple of them. I mean we got the most important position last year when we landed Nico. This cycle we are getting him a weapon to throw to.

Yeah it'd be nice to get some more Darnell Wrights and Trey Smiths, but there's literally only one 5 star oline players in the 2024 class.

In addition to how few 5-stars there are most years, the players have to fit our culture and be a plus factor in the locker room. Rumor indicates how much damage even one locker room incident can be on a winning season.

I tend to think that the most common leveling factor for many "upcoming dynasty" teams in college football has been the chemistry between elite players reaching a toxic tipping point. Historically, only a few coaches have the brutality and grace of personality to keep those rosters from exploding.

I like the kind of young men Heupel is recruiting. Any fan with boys should send Heupel and White thank you cards for elevating the standard for character expectations of an athlete in the state of Tennessee.

Time will tell what successes we can achieve. But one thing we know already--it's sure going to be fun to watch!

We got a 5* receiver so far in this class, Nico was a 5* last year and one could argue Hobbs and Bradley on the DL were very high 4*s bordering on 5*. Plenty of 5*s flame out. Look at the 4* DL/Edge guys in the last class that contributed heavily and played great last season. Tyre West, Pearce, Josephs. We’re going to be fine.

It's not who you go to prom with. It's who you leave with. These 5 stars may sign with these other schools but will transfer out. Give them 1 or 2 years on college to see who is a wash out and who is the real deal. Then pick them up in the portal.
