I'm sitting here watching the Oregon vs. Oregon St. game and I can't understand why we need to add another top 10 team to our schedule......

We will play Bama, Florida, and LSU (all have a great chance to be in the top 10). How can a game w/ Oregon help us in the grand scheme of things......

Why not play a cupcake team (Which is what Florida, LSU and alot of other top ranked teams do).....

Let's say Oregon is not on the schedule and we win 2 out of 3 of the games metioned, then we are in the hunt for a bigtime bowl, etc.......

Thoughts?

Recruiting is always a big reason we schedule big non-conference opponents. First, we are guaranteed a good television slot. Second, we get our name out to an area that normally doesn't see much of us. It will be brutal, but it will look good if we win.

You can say many things Phil, but he was not stupid. Recruiting is key.

I'd rather play a big time school than run and hide from them. The goal is to be the best in 1-A, not the best in 1-AA.
And remember: To be the man, you've got to beat the man.

I would rather schedule a team like Oregon then Charleston Southern, just because you have OOC games doesn't mean you make them cream puffs like some schools do.

We got alot of vols fans that need to change thier mindset. THIS IS THE KIFFIN ERA. what that means is

1.WERE NOT SCARED OF ANY TEAM. NOT VA TECH, NOT OREGON. WELL PLAY THE BEST AND WE EXPECT TO WIN

2.NO SUCH THING AS MORAL VICTORIES WE EXPECT TO WIN

3.KIFFINS JOB IS TO PISS THE OTHER COACHES OFF, STAY IN THE NEWS, AND BE A COCKY SOB BECAUSE IT HELPS RECRUITING.WE EXPECT TO WIN

4.WERE GONNA RUN THE SCORE UP, KICK UNNECCESSARY ON SIDE KICKS, AND WERE NEVER HAPPY WITH THE WAY WE PLAYED UNLESS WERE PERFECT BECAUSE WE EXPECT TO WIN

5.KIFFIN IS BUILDING A DYNASTY AND CHANGING THE ATTITUDE AT UT. THE MOST IMPORTANT PART OF THAT ATTITUDE IS WE EXPECT TO WIN.

Screw oregon, they're gonna get it handed to them the same way boise st. handed it to them earlier this year. I want us to play Va tech instead of wisconsin. I want us to play oregon instead of charleston southern.

WE EXPECT TO WIN

I'd rather lose to a team like Oregon than play the Western Kentuckys and Tennessee Martins of the the world. An early season loss of this nature, even during a National Championship run, is not in itself disasterous. The goal of our program will always be first, and foremost, to win the SEC. How many consecutive years has the NC come from the SEC? It's games like these which allows our program to be elevated in the consciousness of high schoolers who play on the west coast. Tennessee will have their hands full against the Ducks at Neyland next year but will paste them in Autzen in 2011.

Playing a bunch of cupcakes for the ooc schedule is for a bunch of panty waist sissies that have an alligator for their mascot.

It sounds great, but in college football you don't always have to beat the man...... You have to beat a few of them and let the rest knock themselves off.

I agree w/ recruiting, but the atmosphere at Neyland is electric (well, most of the time). I just think we have a lot more to lose, than we do to gain from games like this.

If we beat everyone in the SEC trust me the recruits will notice......

Would you rather play a cupcake team in UCLA and get BEAT or play a top 10 team win or lose? It looks good on our part either way. IMO
And by the way are suggesting we be more like BAMMER AND FL?!?!?

UT's schedule doesn't really leave a great spot for big OOC games because they play all their biggest games early.

So no one is w/ me on this one...........

If we beat Florida, LSU, and Bama I would think we would be in the hunt for big things, but if couple that w/ a loss to an Oregon team that could lose to someone their not suppose too and it could hurt us.......

UT has always done this and I hope we continue to do it (and our future schedules show we will). A major ooc game every year makes for great pub

all true but this game was scheduled before Kiffin. it's tradition(apparently) to open the season with a pac 10 opponent.

I think we're saying if we lose to a Pac 10 team we don't deserve to be considered title worthy.
