Why do we need a new OC? Look at the offense after Hurd left.

We were destined to lose at least 2 games this year maybe 3, even if we played our best. Two big losses to Alabama, and probably another loss to Oklahoma in the Sugar Bowl.
This year, Alabama has given up 11.1 ppg in 14 games. Starting with the Tennessee game this year, Alabama has given up 8.1 ppg in their last 8 games. In case you aren't aware, Alabama has a pretty good defense.
Edit: Florida gave up an average of 17.1 ppg this year, and 13.5 ppg the year before.
Oh those 2 terrible defenses that every other team scores a ton on? I mean look at what the Huskies just did the bammer. We need an explosive offense like Washington just showed the world in the Peach bowl. Right?
1. Mistakes
2. Lack of discipline
3. Inability to adapt to defense
The offense isn't terrible by any stretch of the imagination, but I think too many people are focusing solely on yardage, rather than the big picture. We turned the ball over more than any other team in the SEC aside from Kentucky. We were one of the worst in the nation when it came to penalties.
I'm never been totally down on DeBord, but I don't think he's a championship caliber OC. He does some things very well. He's good at game planning. But we've regressed significantly when it comes to "the little things" this past year and that worries me. We can't keep putting our defense in bad spots because we're constantly turning the ball over.
DeBord is good at game-planning, but as we saw in the Alabama game, when the defense changes its looks, it's like he has no ability to adapt on the fly. That's not a good sign to me. Great teams are smart enough to throw new wrinkles and new looks at opposing offenses. (See how Clemson confused Ohio State's offense last night.)
I know a lot of people keeping saying "it's Butch's fault" but I don't see it. We were very disciplined and didn't make as many mistakes under Coach Jake and that continued into 2015. There's nothing wrong with the offensive scheme that Butch wants to run. The problem all season has simply been "little things" like penalties, not holding onto the ball, dropping passes, etc. To me, that falls more on the Offensive Coordinator than the Head Coach.
It would be interesting to see what other teams are averaging against them during this stretch as well.
Because if you can get Helfrich he's elite! Debord is getting ready to retire. We need a name with the cred that can recruit against Bama, FSU, Clemson etc...

Where did I say that? We aren't going to beat Alabama with the players that we have. We have some good ones, just not 2 or 3 at every position like they do. Sorry.Gotcha.
What you are saying is that Jones shouldn't try to upgrade his staff if the opportunity comes up because Florida and Alabama have good defenses.
