What other CFB program most resembles Tennessee's?

Rich football history. Legendary coach from decades back. Huge stadium. Lots of alums playing (or who have played) in the NFL. Renewed success in the 1990s, a drop off in the 2000s, and now a new young, energetic, yet controversial coach replacing a well known coach who took over in the mid-90s, has a very high career winning %, a NC on his resume, and who happens to hail from Tennessee?

(Apologies if this has been thoroughly discussed before.)

I have no idea where Lloyd Carr is from, and am too lazy to look it up, but there is a very long list of similarities between UT and Mich.

Change the dates and that looks a whole lot like Oklahoma, circa 1999.

Michigan, but I hope Hat's assessment about Oklahoma is the path we're on instead of UM's.

Yeah legendary coach (Tom Osborne), big stadium, passionate fans, dominant in the 90's and fell off in the past decade. I would say Nebraska.

You know it is almost football time when the board vets start reappearing on the main board. Welcome back. :hi:

thanks - happens to be a rare slow-ish day, and I'm 20 min down the road from where College Football will kickoff tonight. So I guess I've got pigskin on the brain.

I saw something on TV about Rich Rodriguez, and it just made me think of how much UT and UM have in common. The similarities are striking. Now, if Kiffin reels off a Bob Stoops-like run, I'll be more than happy to give Hat props for that prognostication.

well our situation does not match identically with this school, but i feel like we have a lot of similarities with them. i have always thought that penn state was a close relative to ut. we both started playing around the same time, win/loss records are very close, stadium size is close, postseason bowl records are close. i just always kind of felt like their fans have a similar loyalty to vol fans. if ut were a big ten team i think we would look a lot like penn state.

Well that's better than foreskin on the brain.

I'll probably get killed for this but I'd say Texas A&M. Although they haven't had the recent success like Tennessee in the 90's they have ton's of tradition going back to the early 1900's, two National Championships in football, a great rival in Texas, a former NFL coach in Mike Sherman, great facilities and a passion for football. Just a thought.
