The difference is that this staff may actually be able to coach. For years, Phil got away with out-talenting the opposition.

I asked Mack Crowder's dad early on what he saw as the biggest difference was between Butch Jones and Dooley and he said "The difference IS that Butch Jones is a REAL football coach." He said it was like Dooley was better suited to be an administrator.

Always appreciate the info you bring to the board with these type of relationships

Among our 1997 signees: Jamal Lewis, Travis Henry, Travis Stephens, Cedrick Wilson, Fred Weary, Will Bartholomew, Cosey Coleman, Deon Grant, Andre Lott, David Martin and Eric Parker.

Busts! Some of those never even made a Pro-Bowl!

In this order:

Mosley
Barnett
Berry x 2
Heurletou/McDowell
Hendrix

Would love to get Blair or Genessy but I am very doubtful of both.

Yeah I mean Fulmer couldn't really coach right? :ermm:

Phil was a great recruiter, was very good at player development, was very good at game planning IMO. However, I think once the game began and the gameplan wasn't working, he had an inability to make any in-game adjustments. Again, jmho. I'm a big Fulmer fan and will be forever grateful for what he did for the program.

I think every member of VN would gladly "settle" for a decade or two of out-talenting the opposition right about now.

How soon we forget...

Not all of us. Praying that CBJ can go 152-52 with a few SEC Championships and a Natty....

Might want to tap the brakes just a bit there. I am as excited as can be about what CBJ is up to, but give credit where credit is due.

Fulmer could recruit.

I give you the 2002 & 2007 Vols classes on paper. And yes, we all know how they turned out.

2002 Vols:
5 5*, 16 4*, 2 3*
25 total recruits, #2 class
Rivals 2002 football recruiting rankings

2007 Vols:
5 5*, 11 4*, 15 3*
32 total recruits, #3 class
Rivals 2007 football recruiting rankings

the 2002 class had plenty of good players that deserved being mentioned .mapu ,harrelson a lot of very good players

:rock:Another big boy thats all this class needs is a little more size and we just might have hit the jackpot on this class, best looking class on paper that i have seen in my 42 or 43 year as fan. This class has got a bit of everything, nice looking class some will say we need a QB with this class, i dont get a good qb in the 15 class, we need more big old boys, with what 4 Junior College players they might jump right in, wonder how many of the junior college players are EE in January.

I always secretly hoped that TP was an 8-10 year old kid that hasn't firmly grasped written grammar rules. With the above, that hope was shattered.

He coaches like an Offensive Lineman, where Spurrier coached like a QB. Phil was always reacting, and we got burned by creativity.

But vs. the 3 yards and cloud of dust teams -- Alabama -- Phil cleaned their clocks.

Now go back and look and how many were total busts (a lot).:hi:

Maybe so but they did win a National Championship with that class. Even though a lot of it was on the shoulders of VY (but you can say that about a lot of teams that won the NC)...man he was so much fun to watch in college.
