After that display we have a decent shot at losing to them.

Horrible game play by both sides of our team.

Let's keep running Hurd up the middle when they clearly KNOW that's what we're going to do.

Let's just not throw the ball AT ALL either.

The pathetic ref calls being made. We should have tackled the ref who insisted on holding our ball while he ran down our clock. GTF out of the way!

They let App State's slow substitutions walk off the field then turn around and call false start on our offense.

Targeting calls when it was clearly a shoulder lead in.

At least the "targeting", and I use that loosely, was in the first quarter. That means JRM is available immediately Saturday, right?

I feel your pain and mostly agree. But the D only gave up 13 to a really good team. Cant complain there in the end...........

The teenage premenstrual posting is off to a good start this season.

I'm waiting for " we should cancel the season after this"

If after all this time and talent we can't beat Virginia Tech and a new head coach, Lyle should not get back on the bus

I'm not a teenager but I can damn sure call it like I see it.

The other option for the thread title was going to be, "was that Dooley coaching or Butch Jones cause I damn sure couldn't tell."

Why in the world would I be remorseful for purchasing Bristol tix? That game is all about the once in a lifetime experience. It's the folks who have paid $400 & $500 for UF tix that should feel a bit silly this evening.

No doubt it was ugly, but it was a season opener.
They needed a wake up call and they got it.

Don't kid yourself, a Dooley led team loses that game 10 out of 10 times.

At one point I did say to a friend "Damn, I bought too soon. Those tickets are getting cheaper by the snap."

DOOLEY: "Well, I'd love to sit up here and say a win's a win, so ... a win's a win. When you're a coach in this profession you're supposed to say 'well I'll know more after I look at the tape' or 'we'll spend the first day watching tape,' but I think we may just burn the tape this time and forget it ever happened. Well, I don't know. I don't know what's going on in their heads, honestly. Can't protect the ball, can't throw the ball. We coach them up well enough in practice, but it doesn't seem like they've got it yet. We're sitting there, all our fans, all the electricity, but we did not handle it. Did not handle it at all. But we've got to learn from it. I say it every week - learn from your wins, and learn from your losses. You can't get down like we did. Cam drops that ball and we get down. Jalen gets ejected after a stupid targeting mistake, and we act like we've never played a lick of defense in our lives. You know, it's like when they send astronauts up, and let's say a guy's sick, well, what do you do? Do you just scrub the launch? Just tell everyone to go home, have a sandwich, watch some TV, and we'll shoot the rocket off next week? No, you put someone else in the rocket and you fire it into space. You do the job. Because the mission's more important than one man. And the team's got to learn that the mission goes on. The mission's bigger than one guy. Jalen's important, but these guys are all big time players. And we need them to remember that instead of sitting there all anxious because Jalen's out of the game. I've got news for them -- he won't be there at all next year, so best get used to it now. But we lose that ball, and we lose Jalen, and let them get the option running, and we can't contain them to the inside, and it just gets worse from there. But they have to learn from it. Have to. Have to learn from it and move on, so maybe we won't burn the tapes just yet. I don't know why I say tape, it's all digital now anyway, so we'd be burning hard drives, not tapes. At least something would be on fire around here, I guess. Probably hazardous to do that, though, all the chemical gasses from a burning drive. So the film's probably safe. Safe to say."

That's what Derek Dooley would say.

Our D is so good, they might decide not to let VT into the speedway.

. . .

You must have been watching a different game than the rest of us. JRM lead with his head and hit him helmet to helmet. That is the classic definition of targeting and will always result in an ejection.

you can really go with "UT wins easily" after watching the App State game??

Good, I want to the the Vols punch and kick and fight to their absolute best for every single victory.

If anything this first game will teach them the lesson of never underestimating an opponent again.
