Who woul you pick to replace Chaney?

Ok this is my first thread, hopefully I don't get dogged too much lol. I could not find this topic anywhere so SIAP.

In another thread I stated that Chaney's offense has ran it's course in the SEC, that being said if you could hand pick a new OC to replace him who would it be?

I like two guys one being, Lincoln Riley at ECU, worked under Leach in the Grham Harrell and Crabtree days. His first year at ECU his offense broke or tied 29 school records. I know you say well it's ECU, either way he's a good young coordinator.

The other guy I like is Danny Langsdorf from Oregon State,
His offense is usually pretty balanced between the run and pass, not to mention explosive. Seems like every Qb he works with breaks records.

Not to mention both of these guys would bring much needed youth to the staff with Riley being 28 and Langsford at 40.

Who would you guys pick?

if this is your first thread, it should be your last. Some people are never happy.

We are a pass first Offense plain and simple. Enjoy this year because Bray, Hunter and Patterson are gone early. Then we are left with Worley to lead us to an SEC Championship. Stop and smell the roses.

If we become a pass first offense we will not win championships.

ok .........I will play . I would keep Chaney , but if he quit to be a farmer today , i would want Helfrich, as that is one fun offense to watch

I disagree. We can be a pass first offense and still be able to run the ball. Some teams run the ball to set up the pass. I think we will throw to set up the run. As long as we have some balance between the pass and run I think we can compete for championships.

Where do you coach?

Do I have to coach to have an opinion on Chaney's play calling? Do I think it's stupid to pass on 3rd and 2? Yes. Was the wildcat call at kentucky last year the dumbest call in a long time? I think so. And how many toss sweeps had to fail last year before we stopped trying? I didn't say he was a bad coach I just said his play calling is suspect at times.

The past 6 SEC and national champions disagree.

Yeah because Auburn and FL were pound it out teams. I believe I remember a really up tempo spread offense, but hey what do I know.

Our strength is our passing attack and if we can't use that to set up our running game and keep things balanced then I guess I'll be wrong, but that is the way it is going to have to be because that is what we do best. I think defense is the most important thing anyway because the first championship out of the 2 bama won was more about D cause their offense wasn't very good and it almost cost them cause we could've/should've beat them.

Actually they were. Do you remember what those 2 teams did on 3rd and 3? They didn't pass.

They didn't hand it to a running back either. It was either a pass or the QB running, but like I said it has less to do with the O and more to do with the D. Bama won both of theirs with good D they would've struggled to beat texas if Colt doesn't go down at the first of that game because their O wasn't very good and texas shut their running game down.

Pretty much the only way that can be taken. Before we even play an SEC game no less.

CJC's 4th year right?

One game doesn't constitute things rolling. Plus there were a lot of points left on the field.

CJC's play calling is very good when we are clicking. When we get into a bind on the field it seems he gets frustrated. Fortunately we were able to capitalize on SEVERAL 3 and longs in the late stages of the game or this game could have been very close. IMO he also chokes inside the red zone particularly 1st and goal. He is too quick to abandon what got him to 1st and goal and try to get "cute". JMHO. We will see in 2 weeks.

There are two reasons you don't have a clue. One, most will be wishing Chaney was still here when he leaves for a better position. Two, you are a Bammer fan as well.

Again, the key word is IF. IF poses the question as a hypothetical.

True, but bringing up the topic at this point is counter-productive, in my view. It assumes there is a groundswell of support for his removal, which I don't think exists.

As an example, I could pose another hypothetical. What if there was a "Dislike" button in addition to the "Like" button for posts? How many dislikes would you think it would take before a poster got banned?

I enjoy reading the opposing view points and am free to ignore the unhelpful and ignorant comments, so I would not support such an idea. I don't even think there is any sort of intention to do something like that. But, just watch and see how many people will answer the question after I post this, thus indicating they think it is happening.

Lol I expected this response, so funny how people get worked up over a hypothetical question. I stated that it was just a fantasy thread, if you could pick who would you, and I am pretty sure I said not calling for him to be fired lol. There are way to many people wound too tight on here. So chill out folks. GBO!!!!

I think the OP is very legitimate, even after the impressive win.

After two years of a run philosophy that is anathema to Tennessee, running out of the pistol east to west* just had me wanting to jettison Chaney like Maverick ejected Goose in Top Gun.

On reflection though I'm convinced the pistol run game was just subterfuge anticipating the Florida game. However, we beat a team Friday that was slower and smaller than we are. Jim Chaney, IMHO, has a lot to prove in two weeks.

* I know Neal was going east to west too much, but it is still a philosophy which requires "vision" and "development" when, really, it would be nice to line-up and push someone back a few yards.
