Milton is in the NFL now.

Y’all got to stop acting like he was some bum.
Looking like he'll be #2 at Dallas and with Dak. He's going to see some playing time
Milton came after Hooker and had the highly touted 5* Nico behind him, any mistake he made was gonna be a death sentence for him

It really doesn't matter who starts in the opener. I would guess the odds are 60/40 in the SEC that your QB does not play every game. You need 2 QB's in this league to survive. The top 2 will see a lot of action.

We've complained consistently that every QB except Hooker held the ball too long so no...... they didn't throw the INT because they took the sack or threw it away.

That's been the complaint with Joe and Nico: they don't know what to do with the ball so they take the sack or throw a useless dump pass or throw it out of bounds.

JA is a gunslinger who likes to throw it so if he's our guy he's supposedly NOT going to hold it too long so we'll see whether Joe and Nico were correct in "holding it too long" if JA does throw a lot of picks.
Joe wasn't really hanging on to the ball. His problem was he would overthrow guys by 10 yards and the WR's had a case if the drops. Nico was a young QB so of course he will hang in to the ball. Either way they still didn’t put the ball in harms way for whatever reason. Sacks a big but a turnover is bigger.

Ainge was a mess for a while. I’ll never forget that throw he had in his own end zone against LSU. I thought he was done playing ball after that as he was broken between the ears. He only got back on track when Cut came back. He had a far different journey than the other 2 you mention.
The old bouquet toss….I remember it.

It’s one of the many times I’ve made a snap judgment for a QB doing something stupid and I’ve learned you just can’t judge a QB by a single dumb play, even something like running out of bounds on 4th down to end the game. I remember seeing a QB once throw a pass, it got batted back to him, he caught it and threw it again. I believe it was about halfway through his freshman year and the commentators were saying it was a freshman mistake. I didn’t see it that way as you knew he had been playing ball his whole life and every kid is peewee football knows you can’t throw 2 forward passes on one play so I deemed that kid didn’t have it between the ears. I was wrong. Matt Stafford had a great college career, a solid NFL career, and he’s a SB Champ. I thought Ainge was done after that play and he wasn’t. One play doesn’t define a QB. It easy to criticize from the stands but what these guys do on the field isn’t easy.

NO one throws too many INTs in this offense.
True. While it was a small sample size, Joe Milton had 5 TDs to 6 INTs at Michigan in 152 attempts.

At Tennessee he only threw 5 INTs total in 497 attempts. That’s with 32 TDs.

Hooker threw 7 INTs at VT in 312 attempts (not a bad ratio at all). At Tennessee, he only threw 5 INTs in 632 attempts. In fact, his problem when he first got to Tennessee was that he was too cautious. They finally got him to air it out and be less cautious, and he still threw INTs at a much lower clip.

This offense just seems to eliminate INTs for whatever reason.

Safe move is let Joey Aguilar start the season, and if he doesn’t perform hand it off the Jake merk the rest of the way and use the experience to build upon for next year.

If you start Merk and he gets replaced by JA, you risk both the record of this season and Merks outlook on being with us next year.

I don’t see George winning it, or Heupel throwing the freshman in there.

I would love to see Joey and merk split games the first two games (assuming we can get away with that without jeopardizing the result in the Syracuse game) and have a starter named for uga.

Joey wins it but is kept on a short leash. If he starts trying to hard or just forces too many throws, Merck comes in. Merk probably gets a lot of playing time anyways. Carrot to keep him from transferring and playing time to set up for next season.

“I’m going to wait to see,” said Herbstreit on the Try That In a Small Town Podcast. “He’s going into a great system. I mean, Josh Heupel puts the quarterback in a spot to be successful with the system that they run, so I wouldn’t be shocked to see him do well.”

He threw something similar in the 4th quarter against Florida in 2006

The guy we bought in, he was given cool 1.5 million for a reason. Absolutely the wrong message for merk and mack. Roast away!!!! I'd be absolutely fine with one of our young guns slinging it!!!!
Merk got a pay raise. Mac is quite happy with the situation this year, been discussed with him and his family. He needs a year of S&C to be ready for the conference.

If Heupel was comfortable with the two guys he had, he would not have gone out and basically recruited over them bringing in Aguilar. If Aguilar is not what CJH thinks he should be, he'll roll with what he has but if that turns out to be the case this season could get pretty doggone bumpy.
I think it was more only having two guys, as opposed to CJH not being comfortable with them. I kind of hope Merk get's the job because, as someone else pointed out, it would be nice to have a good qb around for four years. On the other hand, I hope Aguilar balls out and starts connecting on those long balls that Bazooka Joe and Iamaleft missed. The wide receivers will have a lot to say about that as well (still bitter about Squirrel White hitting the portal. Best Vol football player name since Jim Bob Cooter). I'm cautiously optimistic that a willingness to pull the trigger will result in more long completions so we get to see CJH's whole offense.

I disagree because our offense is very risk adverse, add that to the vanilla play calling and he won’t throw a ton of INTS
Defense was the strength last year and it will be again this year as well. Heupel wasn’t going to throw a lot at Nico last year; he just wasn’t going to. We’ll lean on the running game a lot this year and the defense. Our Oline played like crap in pass pro last year, with a freshman qb there just isn’t a lot of scheme you can throw at people.

This year will be much better imo but there will be some bumps early on.
