Who will start at WR next season?

Where is Slick Shelly and who will be starting at receiver next season?

Slick Shelley is still at UT, and he'll likely contribute next season. Trooper had a lot of positive things to say about Shelley when Slick finally got healthy and was able to practice 100%.

I think these WRs will compete for the starting jobs, in order of most likely to earn it.

1.) Quintin Hancock
2.) Kenny O'Neal
3.) Austin Rodgers
4.) Gerald Jones
5.) Slick Shelley
6.) Brent Vinson
7.) Lucas Taylor
8.) Josh Briscoe

i'd say those are the likely ones to get the bulk of the starts this season. Vinson, Rodgers and Jones will see playing time i think.

IMO, starting Briscoe and Taylor would be a mistake. They're not big play threats, and seem to be a turnover waiting to happen. They're not near as talented as the incoming freshmen.

i really hope fulmer doesn't stoop to putting taylor in the starting lineup. he should not even be considered as a starter at wideout. i think he supersticiously dips his hands in butter before each game

And you have to remember, Kenny O'Neal played as a true freshman at Florida State. He'll be a junior next season at UT. He's ready to contribute right away.

all true, but the old motto at UT...you stay, you play. i dunno...could go either way.

I do agree that some of the younger guys will be better. i'm really excited to Vinson and Hancock with the ball in their hands.

and i don't know much about O'neal, so i'll defer to you on this one.

4.26 second 40-yard dash coming out of high school (according to Scout.com). Known as the fastest player in his recruiting class out of high school. Chose to got to FSU over Georgia, Florida, and LSU.

Was FSU's leading kickoff returner as a true freshman. Had 5 catches for 110 yards that season (22 yd avg). He was also an All-American on the FSU track team. Got kicked off FSU football team for "conduct detrimental to the team." When on to a JUCO in Cali last season, and is now getting a second chance at a major college program.

He'll take advantage of this second chance.

Rogers may be moved to safety depending on how the incoming freshmen fill out. I'd say WR, but, if the incoming WRs look better than the incoming DBs, he could be moved.

I was thinking that Rogers might be moved to Safety but with Morley gone how can it be avoided?

UT has so many talented players at WR that they should be able to find 3 or 4 contributors. O'Neal will probably be the #1 guy if his head is on straight. After that, it has to be wide open. Of the newcomers, the kid from OK might be the most physical and be most likely to make the transition as a Freshman.

Ideally you have a HC who finds a way to put his best athletes on the field. I think UT might go back the 2 WR set with a TE and RB and FB.

WR-Taylor
WR-Brisco

TE-Chris Brown

FB-Holbert
RB-Coker

Thats the most experienced group of players they all know the offense well. Fulmer doesn't have a history of playing a lot of true freshmen, he likes to redshirt some of them.

This seems the most likely to me. Not a Lucas Taylor fan though.

O'neal and Hancock, Trooper raved about Hancock all spring and fall. I don't know if he will make it thru the year, though.

I think both Taylor and Briscoe can contribute, but neither one of them seems very physical. I could see plays were both of them are jammed at the line of scrimmage and Ainge is forced to dump the ball to Coker, or take a sack. I think they'll both contribute, but I don't know if those guys should be the only two WRs on the field.

Neither have great speed nor are physical enough. They both have a fumble problem as well. O'Neal, Vinson, and Jones all have better speed and the latter 2 are more physical.

I hope to see Slick Shelly do well, I know his former HS school coach from Ft. Smith.
I'd also like to see us use the tight end more, I think we've really gotten away from the TE since Witten left.
