Who will Kiffin run off next?

It is possible to like Coach Fulmer, to think he was a good coach, and still be pleased with the hire of Kiffin and how Kiffin and his staff have gone about their business thus far in the Spring.... You don't have to bash Fulmer to be excited about Kiffin.

No, you have to love one and hate the other

In the last few years under Fulmer, the team lacked discipline. Even though Morley was a great talent, its good to see Kiffin laying down the law. Thats what this team needs.....to be held accountable and have to earn what they get. Phil would have probly only suspended Morley. Sorry to say, but with the way Morley was acting, he deserved what he got.

You are different, and therefore wrong. Spell your legs, sam. EN-E-MY...Y

Haha what do I know? I'm just a dumb four-legger. Hey, what does it mean if somebody calls you a kool-aid drinker? I've heard Rush, Hannity, Boortz, and VN posters use this, but have never understood its relevance.

Koolaid drinker refers back to the Jim Jones tragedy. He had people so blindly loyal that they willing drank poisoned kool-aid and committed mass suicide just because he said so.

It has become a term referring to people who are blindly hopeful and trusting in spite of all evidence.

Hmm, thanks for that insight. Since I'm lazy and don't feel like researching right now, I'm going to blindly trust your explanation of a Kool-aid drinker.

I agree with that. I supported Fulmer for a long time, until it was obvious the SEC had passed him by. The problem is that my friend thinks he has to beat down the new coach every chance he gets because he thinks "Coach Phil" got the shaft. He says that Kiffin is doing everything he can to get rid of most of Fulmer's players (with the exception of Berry and a couple of others). I just think he is trying to prune the tree myself. I like the "military style" of conditioning and spring training. One thing about it, there haven't been any arrests to talk about since Kiffin took over.

At this rate we will be lucky to have 75 players on scholarship in the fall.

That may not be so bad... I had rather have 75 real SEC caliber players who put out 100% effort every second of every ballgame than 165 who played like we saw last year.

Afterall, 75 is 3 deep at every position including punters and kickers.

If anyone is on the squad who isn't willing to play 60 minutes of wideopen, balls-to-the wall, absolute smash mouth football, they need to get the hell out of the way. Who better than our coaches to decide who are the slackers and undisciplined members are?

you sure?

I thought the colored kool-aid reference for sports fans though went back to just when people used to make...say purple kool-aid with drugs in it (not die drugs, more like trip drugs) like LSD. Thus the supporters/fans who kept drinking the kool-aid would be so drugged out that they would be happy and content regardless of what was actually going on.

And someone would ask for a pass because jokingly they'd like to be that way/ look at everything that way too or something...u know like saying pass the joint this way or something w/e

does your friend realize how many players would be left if he got rid of every one that played/was recruited by CPF?

Coach Fulmer was handled the right way in the end though the contract last year was worse than ridiculous. He got his shot as a previously successful coach and longtime Vol to turn it around. He couldn't get it done and lost his job. The standard was pretty clear and he failed to meet it.

I advocated hard for him to get the chance and just as hard (though those who argued with me generally ignored this part) that if he failed to better 2007 in 2008... he should be fired.

I'm just glad it wasn't close enough to be in real question.

I think CLK is doing a good job at holding players to a higher standard. This will make better people out of these players later in life. If you can't follow simple rules, then you don't deserve the opportunity to play for UT. How long do you think Colquitt would have been a VOL under CLK???

I don't care if we have 50. This could of been taken care of by what's his name but he refused to do it without 50 chances. That's why TN was 5 and 7 and going nowhere. TN is back on the right road now. Lane is just getting rid of those who don't want to do it the right way. You remember a guy named Banks. Case closed.

I believe Kelly Washington was the beginning of the end for Phil Fulmer. He started a trend of unacceptable behavior and in response, Coach Fulmer started his own trend of either 2nd and 3rd chances or even turning a blind eye. I have always been a huge supporter of Fulmer but, like someone here stated, I was ready for a fresh regime. I am excited about Coach Kiffin and and steadfast behind his hard stance on players that don't want to be part of the team.

Actually it started when he uttered, "I'd like to introduce Randy Sanders as our new offensive coordinator..."

Loyalty>Results

I always felt it started somewhere between that and the missing/losing both chris simms and ken dorsey fiasco

also maybe the not paying cutcliffe enough that he wouldnt have gone to ole miss (perhaps that might have gotten us eli too I now wonder...)

Coach Phil knew how to get along with players.
You just made my point for me, that is apparently getting along is the wrong thing to do, or rather some players mistake kindness for weakness when it comes to discipline.

I understand your concern but I'd rather start the season with 50 Hardcore Winners than 75 yawners. Win or lose, I want a team to show up and punch Florida and Tebow in the mouth. Winning will soon follow.

please explain what KW did that was more unacceptable than many other players

I'm not sure there's enough money to do that. Cut wants to be a HC... I like the guy but I'm not sure that the Peter Principle doesn't apply.

hm, good point didnt think about that part. Still that was probably one of the turning points

The big kiffinator will do it his way reguardless of what some fans like or dislike. He's not here to kiss your sweet candy azz. He will do what he likes, when he likes and however he likes to do it. His soul perpouse is to build a program that will be a championship caliber team that have desire, focus, and a certin pride that will spread to every true fan. I was not proud of our team last year, and i'm sick and tired of being a laughing stock. Payback is due and it's going to be hell.

Kelly Washington was a major distraction in the lockerroom. He divided the team and was constantly berating teammates and coaching staff in the media. Coach Fulmer never (at least that the public was made aware of) dealt with Washington in any way, certainly no suspensions or worse.

Fulmer appeared to tolerate Washington's conduct because of his talent. This seemed to open the floodgates to that type of behavior. Since that time, there have been innumerable offenses of common sense and decency, not to mention run-ins with the law. The record post Kelly Washington is 38-24.

I believe Fulmer lost credibility with his players at that point and has never been able to regain it. Things have never been the same.

At the time it appeared that way to me too. I thought KW had to be "roided" up the way he acted on the sideline and all. I was corrected though by someone who was an insider. He indicated that what I thought was crazy behavior was just KW's frustration in trying to get his team mates motivated. This guy said KW was a hard worker who wanted everyone to be accountable and that he would get in your face if you weren't giving your all. I have a feeling KW would have excelled in Kiffin's system. TIFWIW

You realize that meant he would have had to win 11 games, right? I wasn't in complete agreement with him getting fired based on the fact that he had won 10 games the previous season, but I understand why he was and now back Kiffin 100%....
