Who WILL it be...not who you WANT

It's because of Dooley that makes my statement make sense. Fool me once, shame on you, fool me twice...

Agreed, but I dont think Tennessee is above it. Even again.

But, like I said, we dont call the shots.

I keep seeing Bob Stoops' name thrown out. Please, please, PLEASE God don't let that happen.

I live in the west coast and watch a lot of PAC12 ball as a result. Stoops is a raving lunatic on the sidelines and looks like a jackazz. I can tell you west coast teams like UW and UO And UCLA and others used footage of him foaming at the mouth as a recruiting tool. They took recruits from him, and the Sabans and Muschamps in our league will figure that out too.

He got fired for a reason. Please stop this rumor, he's an idiot and belongs at JUCO.

Are you talking about Mike Stoops, the former head coach at Arizona?

As Tony would say, "you are a living brain donor."

Wait, yeah its early got my Stoops mixed up... Mike not Bob. Need coffee!

Bob could be a good hire, but could we land him? Probably not.

But yeah, I have seen Mike's name a couple of times... I'll take 10 more years of Doolittle over that drooling idiot representing my U.

I have also seen Mike Riley's name from OSU pop up. I like that guy alot, partly since he's a good guy, and partly because the duck fans hate him so much.

It's going to be virtually impossible to pull him. He gets offered other jobs, turns them down. He's actually stated very publicly that he wants to be nowhere but OSU for life, money be dammed. Now, if we can just find a guy like him, with that dedication, for UT.....

Why do I keep hearing "Bob Stoops" being mentioned? Did I miss something? Why on Earth would he leave his cozy situation at Oklahoma to come here??

Yeah, exactly. I can't see him leaving there for anywhere short of an NFL gig. He is well paid and widely loved, and those two things tend to keep a coach put.

I would like us to keep Doolittle until an OH-MY-GOD-HE'S-AVAILABLE guy hits the board. No point in getting another mediocre coach. Doolittle will keep a modicum of talent in place, so the new guy will have plenty to work with. Example - imagine what a guy like Saban could do with JH and CP. We'd be the scariest pass offense in CFB.

Well if we're operating under the assumption that the "big splash" hire is off the table, I have exactly 2 names.

1.) Gary Patterson from TCU

2.) Charlie Strong from Louisville

I think both of these guys could do great things here.

I do NOT want a coordinator! I want a proven coach! Tennessee should not be a "learn on the job" destination.

This. Unless we get a proven commodity I would rather keep Dooley than get another assistant.

Have you ever actually watched a Saban-coached offense?

Might as well shut the program down if it's Cutcliffe. I cannot think of anyone that would be such an underwhelming hire as him.

Coach Cutcliffe, in my opinion would be an excellent head coach at UT if he were offered the job. We've hired two straight outsiders, and it's time to get a head coach with strong UT ties and a burning passion to build our program back to where it was several years ago under Coach Fulmer.

My barber's cousin has a friend that delivers newspapers to a phone repairman that worked on an athletic department insider's phone. He says that Skip Holtz is a done deal.

I do like his strong UT connection, but the dude hasn't exactly lit the world on fire since he left.

My issue, and hopefully the issue the powers that be are discussing, is that there just isn't a top-tier guy on the market right now.

Typically we see a coaching carousel every year after the season. I just hope we can land a big fish when that happens.

I'll oblige and follow the "rules" set by the OP.

Here is the list I came up with just briefly:

Stockstill -MTSU
Smart - Alabama
Malzahn - Arkie State
Swinney - Clemson
Strong - Louisville
Fedora - NC

All the: Stoops, Gundy, Gruden, Brown, Tubberville, Peterson, and Patterson talk is simply a pipe dream for various reasons.

Heck no to Stockstill. He can't even get MTSU to win the sunbelt, even when they've had the best teams in the conference. He's just like Dooley, likeable guy but just can't win the important games.

Gruden, Tupperville, Cutcliffe .......all good candidates from my viewpoint. I thought Cutcliffe would comeback, after Hamilton was fired, anyway.

Gruden, the guy just has the most passion I've ever seen for football. He's like a little kid at the candy store talking about football on ESPN. Plus, with his big name he'll fill seats quickly and be the biggest splash hire in the SEC since Saban was rehired at Alabama.

Phil Fulmer!!! Let this madness end!!!! Until UT makes right with the big guy, the karmic curse will plague whoever comes.

Who do you really believe will be the next coach at Tennessee?
We could talk forever about who would be a slam dunk hire, or who you'd love to see in orange. I want to know who you actually think will get the job.

Like most of you, I rarely know what I'm talking about (all subjects included), but I'm gonna make the prediction that Coach Cutcliffe will be our next guy. He'll finish with maybe two more wins this year at Duke, and that will be just impressive enough to get him the love he wants.

Wrong :eek:lol:
