I know there was a thread the other day asking who besides Eric Berry was the most dynamic player coming back. My question wonders who will be the surprise breakout player that was languishing on the bench under Fulmer. Bradshaw got a fresh start when Pearl took over and really took advantage of it. Any guesses if there will be a returning football player that makes a big impact like that?

I liked the guy, but how did Dane Bradshaw achieve hero status?

Bradshaw did nothing but make a game winning layup. i expected Childress to take his job nicely

I don't think he meant it to that extreme.........I think what he meant was that Dane was a nobody on Buzz Suckerson's team.........then with Pearl in command, he became a great team guy, a great glue guy, a great clutch guy.........;)

As far as the football team goes, I'm goning to jump out on a limb here and pick 2 guys.........
1. Offense - Quinton Hancock
2. Defense - Chris Donald

Yeah, I don't know how we would have made it the past couple of years without those 6 points and 3 rebounds a night.

I get the premise of the thread, but I'm trying to figure out what being "Dane Bradshaw" really means in football terms.

Pearl sure did like him though. He must have believed that Dane had a big impact on the game -- regardless of stats.

I get the premise of the thread, but really Dane Bradshaw is the equivalent of the guy that runs down on special teams and gets his head kicked in busting the wedge.

:birgits_giggle:...o no u deleted the funny part

I'm assuming u'r not a real bball fan, more of a football fan?? either way, not everyone can be the star, I see u'r point, though.......;)

I think Dane was a rare talent........a knack for the timing of the game, dribble, break down a defense, kick it out to Lofton for 3......(good thing he had lofton!! haha)

Dane was a great passer, great penetrater, a guy that could break down defenses off the dribble at the end of the shotclock, much better than our point guards now, acutally..........;)

He was rated on Dick Vitale's ALL GLUE TEAM, 1st team all-american..........I know, you can bash this team all you want, but it's still an impressive honor, I think....

Dane Bradshaw in basketball = Dale Jones in football.

Average white kid with orange heart and soul.

Dane wasn't the most talented athlete on the floor any given night, but he made some big plays for Tennessee.

. . . some serious revisionist history going on here. I sound like I'm bashing the guy, but I'm not.

I agree his stats were'nt the best.........you know, his senior year Pearl put him alot at 4, so he was guarding Al Horford and Jackin' Noah in the post.......Dane was really an amazing player, way beyond the stats......

One of the best team/ glue guys ever to wear the orange......

Bill Bates also spent around 15 years in the pros. I don't think they have a test to measure heart at the NFL combine.

abrams is right, I'm not trying to argue that Bradshaw was Bernard King, I'm just saying he was barely used under Buzz & became an integral part of Pearl's team (for whatever reason). I just wonder if there will be any surprise football players that step up next year & make us think, "Dang! I didn't know he had that in him!" -
Might be too hard to translate the premise from b-ball to football, but I guess the whole "every job is open" (except for one ) philosophy would give some guy who maybe would've been written off under the old regime, a new lease on life.

I'm trying to figure out why Dane is so great. I mean he's a great guy but...what the hell made him so special on the hardwood?

well if i was to have to bet on one individual for this year it would be BJ Coleman he's got the greatest chance in the world to prove to himself and others that Cut wasn't wrong about him
