Who were Georgia's HC's before

You might argue they struggled with richt, although I'd trade struggles. Just heard tonight that they hadn't played Alabama in 4 years?!? That's 4 losses that they avoided.

Ritch Richt?
Donnan is the only one I remember other than Vince Dooley.

Struggled? Donnan and Goff came after Dooley and prior to Richt...neither really "struggled". Not sure who are what you're talking about.

Ray Goff...I think he replaced Vince Dooley. He sucked bad...they called him ray gump.

Then then hired the Jim donnan guy. He wasn't much better.

Richt came along around 2001ish

Really? Donnan was 40-19 in 5 years at UGA and 35-13 the last four (7 of those losses were to UT and UF who were beating everyone back then) year.

Good coach, great recruiter. He left the cupboard stocked which allowed Richt to start fast and build on what Donnan started.

Donnan wasn't that bad of a coach but loosing to UT and Florida (more specifically UT) is what did him in. 2 or 3 times GA was favored and UT beat them.

I don't remember it that way. Donnan was there from 1996 to 2000. Not a lot of teams not named Florida were favored over UT during the time. In fact, in 2000 when UGA finally beat UT, the UGA fans trampled the Hedges and nearly tore their stadium down.

I really don't mean to spend so much energy defending Donnan. Really don't like him.

Maybe it was Goff then. I do remember the 92 and 93 seasons they were favored-heavily in 92 and UT beat em. Who remembers Fulmer dialing up pass plays at end of 97 game so Manning could get his stats and Donnan cussing him at mid field after game?

Donnan didn't get fired for losing to UT; he got fired for losing to Georgia Tech. Granted the ACC was much better in the late 90's, but Georgia had owned GT from 91 until 98-2000 when GT won 3 straight. Sadly Tech has only beaten UGA once during Richt's tenure...

To his credit, I have heard Donnan speak several times since he was fired. He speaks highly of Fulmer and says he has great respect for him as a coach and as a person.

Of course, Donnan is also still taking credit for all of Richt's success at Georgia too.

BTW: no matter how good the deal sounds, don't invest any money in anything Donnan is involved in.:jpshakehead:

I remember Spurrier calling Goff "Ray Goof" I dont remember anyone calling him Ray Gump though........Whenever we mention a coach calling another coach or school a witty name its always Spurrier god I hate that man as an oppononent but hes a hell of an interview...... Free Shoes Univeristy blast on Bowden was great, so was the cant spell Citrus without UT blast he laid on us....another Spurrier legend comment was I know why Peyton is coming back for his senior year he wants to be a 3 time Citrus Bowl MVP......Spurrier youre an a**hole but I cant deny you are entertaining, Go Vols.

Donnan couldnt beat Tech, UT or UF and that led to his demise...Joe Hailton>Hines Ward, I actually follow a bit of Tech football anyone whos fans hate UGA, Bammer or Florida is fine by me.

To Hell with Georgia is up there with "we dont give a damn for the whole state of Michigan" in rivalry songs, we need a "To hell with Bamneck" or a "F*** Florida and their Homoerotic male fanbase" song if you ask me.

THIS right here.

UT fans and UF fans give themselves a bit too much credit. Urban owned CMR and it was not enough to get Richt fired.

The GT rivalry is the one that means the most to the fans. It is unacceptable to lose to the nerds. Of course every loss sucks but nothing compares when we lose to the nerds.

Ritch? They struggled with 3 coaches before Ritch.....

Goff struggled. Jim Donnan wasn't really that bad. He just didn't play the politics very well and a lot of people didn't like him.

I'd argue with that. GT has been more like a social event than a rivalry. I'd say Florida is way out in front as far as UGA rivalries go.

Florida rivalry means more to UGA than GT. What rivalry does the nail have with the hammer? Like us and Vandy, until lately...
