Who was the last unranked pre season team to reach number 1?

I know we may not be ranked at the top when the polls come out but we sure are in the conversation. It is just amazing that a team so little thought of has came this far so quickly.

I remember a story that if Tennessee had beaten Kentucky in 1984 that Tennessee with an 8-2-1 record would have been invited to play 12-0 BYU in the Holiday Bowl.

No idea, but wasnt Miss St #1 for a hot minute like 5 years ago, felt like college football was broken that year

I think Terry Bowden took an un ranked Auburn team to#1 one year but they had a Bowl ban for some reason and I think USCw won Natty that year. I could be wrong going strictly from memory. I think that Auburn team finished undefeated.
