Who was the great NBA player in the 60s or 70s who was supposed to go to Tennessee?

Along with the original question... Who was the #1 type player in the nation that Buzz Peterson signed ? He was a center. As was expected, he went straight from HS to the NBA. Not Andrew Bynum, but was it the other Big that people thought may be the #1 pick? Help

At UT ? I don't know. Amare Stoudamire was going to go to Florida, but I'm not sure he even went #1

The list of HS to NBA players isn’t very long. Assuming he got drafted at all. Curious which player you’re referring to.

I like the story on Vitale, it reminds me of the SI preseason issue when I was in HS in the late 70s - they were talking about Iona Basketball and that they had two legit stars in Jeff Ruland and Glenn Vickers that could play for anyone. Coach was a guy named Jim Valvano.
