Fair, but you know each game takes a life of it's own. We've protected the football in both ints and fumbles. We'll have to stay good in that area the next 3 weeks in order to win. I think the running game is going to determine the GA outcome, not JG as much.

But the funny thing is, what everyone here seems to forget - is that when you actually have a running game, it makes it sooooooo much easier for the QB to make reads and lob it down field every so often. And to have a running game in the SEC, you need road graders on the OL to open holes for your RBs to gash through and you need RBs who have that greasy speed to get to the corner and turn up field or who can blow though those holes made by the OL and fall forward 5-7 yards.

Consider how long it has been since we have had those 2 things at the same time, OL size and RB speed. Without them, EVERYTHING is on JG. Now, for the first time, he has had the same OC for 2 years, has a real pocket and a real ground game. He doesnt get clobbered every single time he touches the ball like he has the past years. With a real supporting cast, JG finally has a chance to show the reasons he was ranked so highly when we recruited him.

I think you just shot maybe 40 years past a lot of these posters here. I agree. Steve struggled with reads and would sling it with little regard. Obviously we know there's been many lesser talented QB's here that JG. NO TURNOVERS. That gives or takes away the opportunity to win and so far he has protected the ball. And if anyone wants to criticize him for throwing a couple of back shoulder throws that almost got picked off Jeremy said that's what he wants to see more of because of the size and athletic ability of our receivers.

I think he played a little CFL...

He's played like this before. That's why I get annoyed when people try to act like he's the worst QB in history. The issue is that he's inconsistent. Can he keep this up throughout the season? If he plays like he did today, we have a shot at Georgia. If he plays like he did last week, we probably don't.
The difference is not running for his life and being beaten like a pinata.

You’re kinda contradicting yourself. You’re say ya he’s not that bad all the time. Just a lot of the time. But he’s good sometimes. Lol.
The quality of a qb is based largely on their consistency and how they perform in the most meaningful moments. And by that metric JG isn’t a very good QB. Even when he’s at his best (as he was this past weekend imo) he’s just incredibly limited. He’s not very athletic at all so he can’t escape pressure well and he doesn’t have good pocket awareness. His best just isn’t elite and for him to be at his best we need amazing play from the offensive line. I was really hoping we’d see another qb getting reps at this point. There’s only so far we’ll even go with him at the helm

When Tennessee runs the ball well and they don’t ask JG to win the game good things happen.

He’s never had the same system or this much talent In front of him. If by some chance he gets his confidence back Tennessee could be really good.

You keep saying we are only going so far with JG, you've said it 8 games in a row now. I'm curious as to how far you think we're going to go then?

Tennessee has the roster to compete with, and beat anyone... However, we have a QB that has all the talent of an eggplant, so we can expect to lose to UGA, AL, and Florida again this year...

It's passed time people stopped making excuses for him... What is he a 5th year senior??? His throwing is what it is at this point... This is exactly like the Titans fans that would tell you about how Mariota was coming around after every time he beat the Jaguars... Missouri may be the 2nd worst team in the SEC... This was not an impressive win...
Get ready for your order of big steamy crow.

This true but there is third thing that maybe more important than the o-line and running game. He understands the offense and he knows what he is doing. In the past he has made tons of bad reads. I can recall only one bad read in two games.

Let's see. OU is 0-2. Our QB has us 2-0 while having no turnovers. We stand a good chance of beating UGa for the 1st time in a few years.

Seriously.... Heartfelt congratulations to JG. He had a great day against Missouri and I am sincerely hoping this is the beginning of things coming together for him and the Tennessee offense.

JG 14/23 (60% completion) for 190 yards 1TD last week compared to 25/39 (64% completion) for 290 yards 1TD against USCj. He was used far less last week due to running game being so effective. I'm not sure what you saw that gave you this revelation? What I saw was a guy who wasn't given much of a chance to screw up.

IF our OL holds up and we have our running game going. Then and only then do we have a chance to really beat UGA. If you're relying on JG alone then we aren't winning the game. He isn't a consistent enough passer to sustain long passing drives.

You know damn well not a single one of those wins was against a really good quality opponent. We have about 4 huge sec games a year. Uga, uf, bama, and usually another team from the west or one of the other eastern teams will have a good year. You could argue that Mizzou and sc are the best teams he’s beaten. Maybe the uk game last year. But he hasn’t beaten any of our biggest rivals. Ever. What is he something like 0-12 in those games. How on earth are you arguing that he’s a advantage (not a liability)?

You didn't answer, I simply asked you how far are we going to go?

I don't know what you guys were watching, but JG was average at best against bottom tier competition while having the benefit of a monster O-Line and a hell of a running game... Dude's entire strategy is throw a deep ball and pray, miss an open receiver on an intermediate route, check down to the RB after long enough so that when the RB catches it he's immediately hammered by the defense, or hand it off... The dude is NOT a good QB, but he does have a knack for winning occassionally...

Damn, I hate being right... And like the Titans last year, the Vols can turn their entire season around by benching JG for good and never looking back... Dude is one of the worst QBs I've ever seen in my life, and I have no explanation for how he gets all of the passes he's gotten for being so subpar for so long...
