I've been meaning to ask this and kept forgetting. When Stephens got pulled and went to the sideline it appeared he was about to get all into somebody but when I rewound my tivo it looked like an assistant coach he was jawing to but the assistant just stood there and didn't say anything so I wasn't sure.

Has anyone heard the "facts" on who he was so peeved at?

Cause all the other players were coming over to him trying to calm him down a little bit.

Whether the kid can make it as a big time QB..time will tell but one thing he has shown several times is that he doesn't seem to be one to take any junk from anyone and that's what you want in a QB.

I personally think he's shown flashes of being really good.

If anyone knows what it was about I'd like to hear.

Nick was yelling at the wide receiver Josh Briscoe for not running a complete route on the interception that was thrown, which is something of an issue with this kid. He seems to kill drives by trying to do much, rather than just get the first down. You can now add not hustling when running his routes to the list as well. :banghead2:

Briscoe was hit by a middle linebacker before the throw. It was a shallow drag route and Stephens couldn't see Briscoe was slowed down by the MLB bump and threw it to the spot Briscoe would have been had he not been bumped. It wasn't Josh's fault and you really can't blame Stephens for throwing it to a spot that his WR normally would have been at if not bumped. But IT IS Stephens fault for crying like a little girl over the whole deal.

That's a pretty good analysis of how it happened...at least as I saw it too.

However, I'm glad Stephens showed the fire on the sideline. The more I see of this kid, the leadership qualities I notice. I don't think he's got the raw talent of a Favre, but I see some of the same field general traits in him.

I also like his fearlessness. He has no fear of making a throw under pressure. It means alot of mistakes, but it can also lead to some huge rewards.

All in all, I like Stephens.

I don't mind someone being emotional on the sidelines, but the qb, as a leader of the team, needs to be on more of an even keel. He should have gone over and talked to Briscoe about why the interception happened to get the whole story before blasting him about it. I did agree when he blasted him for laughing on the sideline though.

I really like the way Boyd has handled this entire coaching extravaganza too-- less than a week after he commits and he's cool as a cucumber "I'm all Vol"

Boyd + New Coaching Staff = Winning Season

That middle linebacker was actually the Ref, I have it TIVOed. Look at it again.

What I like most about Boyd (so far) is that he chose UT because we run a pro-style offense. He was very clear in his distaste for the popular spread and shotgun offenses that are the flavor of the week at so many schools. Boyd wants to play QB, not RB, and that's what we need.

Mobility is good and I'm not saying that I oppose some planned scrambles, but we should always remember that the QB's first responsibility is to get the ball downfield with the pass.

I hope our next Head Coach understands that.

I am fine with that quality in a quarterback, assuming he has the brain and ability to back it up. However, should he lack the brain and ability, which at least two of the quarterbacks on the roster do, then he should shut the hell up and do what he's told.

I personally think he's shown flashes of being really good.

Further proof that much of our fan base has come to expect mediocrity

and that's proof positive Hamilton made the right decision and Fulmer had to go. Why did it take Fulmer being forced to accept a resignation to get Briscoe, Foster and so many others so fired up? Ridiculous and pathetic.

It's too bad they won't be around to get benched next year.

I cant wait to see a New OC make the offense look normal again. Hell I would even take the ol Jonny majors run it up the middle over this pathetic offense. I would even go as far to say I would not mind seein Randy (Screen Play) Sanders over this crap. I gave Clawsen 9 games to show me something and he showed me nothing. And dont say because he did not have the QB because UCLA played with a 3rd string guy and pulled it out. A true talented coach can win with what he has got and use the talents that his players have to make something work. I am not seein that this year with our team. Its pretty obvious that Stephens throws the deep ball better than he throws the short routes why not open the dang field and throw some deep? At least then it would pull the safeties back and we might be able to run the dang ball!!!!
HERE IS TO CHANGE!:toast:

maybe Stevens and Crompton will get into a fight, and beat each other so badly that they cant play. Unfortunatly they cant complete passes so they probably cant land a punch either. :)

We'll have to agree to disagree on this. Time will prove it out. I say he ends up being a stellar Quarterback. I remember seeing Jay Cutler play against Alabama at the beginning of his career and immediately thought he had a lot of raw talent. I don't think Stephens has the talent of Jay Cutler but I've seen him show some signs of having some ability. Again, time will tell.

I think a lot of his miscues have been nerves. Bad blocking hasn't helped him.

His inability to make quick reads or even attempt to go through his progressions when he does get blocks doesn't help either.

I also like seeing the young QB showing some fire. He is young and finally made some mistakes. Gives a slight glimmer of hope for the future even when seeing all of these top notch QB's heading to other programs. UT will need a great QB coach to work with some of these 3 star kids to get them up to speed. Could not be done with Crompton, but Stephens, just maybe.
