Kill that noise.:banghead2:

Say what you will but until they get rid of Fulmer this is a mute point. Besides if a young guy with fire in his belly is what we want then give me Muschamp. Guarantee you he could recruit better than Peterson.

You can't guarentee anything, Muschamp has NEVER and I repeat, NEVER been a HC...Beep Beep..FAIL

Clemson will probably go after muschamp. They are desperate. UT can do better with a proven head coach.

So what Muschamp has never been a head coach! Neither was Peterson until Boise handed Hawkins team over to him. Just because he's never been a head coach doesn't mean he will fail. That's one of the most stupid comments i've heard.

According to everyone on here UT is desperate too. Please give me your honest opinion who would be better. Don't say Davis, Cowher, or Gruden cause none of those guys are coming to UT.

Here is what most Vol fans are looking for in a new head football coach:

The "Bruce Pearl" of college football.

In other words, a younger, aggressive coach willing to use energy and scheme to overcome talent deficiencies - but intelligent enough to maximally utilize talent where it is available and/or needed.

Unfortunately, the closest coach to fit that bill is already employed - at our hated rival Florida.

Chris Peterson is an excellent suggestion, because he isn't afraid to get creative scheme-wise, but he doesn't overuse gadget plays when he feels his team is better/more talented than his opponent - much like Pearl.

Peterson is a great "gameday" coach - something Vols fans haven't had in a decade.

And, yes, I know Fulmer has been at UT for longer than a decade, but I feel when he was younger, he was actually a better, more aggressive coach than the Fulmer we see on the sidelines today.

Peterson has lost 3 games in 3 years...I repeat, 3 games in 3 years...And he's not just squeaking by teams either, He's blowing their doors off...But I can see why You guys want an unproven coach....No wait no I can't

I want Mangino! Why not? If he were willing to come here? It's not like Kansas can outbid us over football.

Exactly. We need him because he's young and he can compete with the Idaho State's and La Tech's of the world. Fulmer can already do that.

You got me there, I want a coach that can inherit all of Dan Hawkins' talent and dominate, I repeat dominate, the La Tech's of the world and occasionally pull out an upset win in the BCS.

This is the man I want in charge.

Sorry but this post is foolish, so I will repeat my self and add some after some research. Hawkins recruiting was crap. Most of the talent was developed. Recruiting has improved since he left. Peterson was the OC all those years and considered the best coach and the architect of the team. Now you have a choice. Defend your horrible position or let it go. Which will it be? Ian Johnson was a two star and the QB and most of the talent that beat OU. Peterson gets almost all three stars now. Hawkins had one 4 star and almost all two stars the end. A guy who can develop talent he is not for UT.

Peterson would be the 11th best coach in the SEC.

Not to mention he'd have to recruit, I doubt he could be that great at it.

Doubt it I mean we take mostly three stars now. So if he is getting mostly three stars at Boise he must Blow. So did Peterson break your sisters heart? You hate his religion? I mean you hate something about him that has nothing to do with his ability as a college football coach. Because he has never failed at that.

No, I just think that there's about 200 better suited candidates. I could care less about his religion, I'll grade him on his ability to rebuild this program. Besides the Oklahoma game, what has he proven? He's beat a few middle of the road Pac-10 teams. Besides Fresno State and Hawaii over the past 3 years since he's taken over who's been close to having a team that could compete with what Hawkins' brought in and developed?

uhh, Meyer beat Pitt dude not OU. He beat Cal and Oregon in 2003--nobody special in 2004 at Utah. So hmm seems like Peterson is actually a better bet than Meyer was.

Yeah, our 7th ranked class is terrible.

Meyer was able to recruit better in a better conference. I'll be the first to admit that Alex Smith should have never been selected first in the draft, but that's one thing that Meyer has on his track record. Who has Peterson had that could be NFL draft material? The o-lineman that played mostly under Hawkins? Johnson? Meyer has since went on to recruit some of the best recruiting classes in the nation in each of his seasons at Florida(I understand it's a little easier to recruit there, but still). I guarantee that if Peterson was hired here, we'd be lucky to consistently compete in bowl games in all but one year. He'd be lucky to have a .500 winning percentage against SEC teams, probably more in the .300's.

I don't see how you can compare the bball HC job with the football HC job. Our basketball team went after an unproven coach because that was the best they could do. The football program has the budget and reputation to get a bigger name than that. I doubt that Hamilton would risk our entire athletic department budget on a coach like Peterson unless a lot of people turn him down first.
