Who wanted to get rid of Fulmer?

We have people who think Dooley is the program.

I have neither seen nor heard anything from anyone suggesting such BS. I know YOU make this claim all the time but can't back it up with any evidence, so as usual, you don't have the first clue as to what you're talking about. Bellyaching and lying are a bad combination, Beef. I realize you think of yourself as being some kind of great fan, but in most people'e eyes that know far better than you, people like you are divisive forces in our fanbase.

I am also in the both category.

I wanted Fulmer out in '08 when it became apparent that he had botched another hire. He should have devote half of his salary to finding the best OC in the United States. He foolishly didn't.

The Clawfense was coming around. It just needed another year or two. Look at the dividends it's paid at Bowling Green!

Anyone who wanted Fulmer gone gets nothing from my cooler.

Go somewhere and die and rot like the big fat elephant closet alabama fan graveyard back pack meth idiot you are... :machgun:
Phil get a job, ya wino.

Show me where Fulmer ever said he was the program? And as far as my statement just read this site. When people are critical of your hero we're said to not be fans or that we're really Alabama fans etc. We're told to support him and the team or go away. So, no I'm not wrong.

hiring back an old, out of date fulmer, who couldn't win his last few years---would be a huge mistake.

True, but I'm still not sure it would be much worse than continuing to employ the young, up to date Dooley who hasn't won anything ever.

There will be plenty of options if Dooley fails. The roster is serviceable and prospective candidates will have confidence in the AD.

So who do you think will leave?

IMO, CP, Hunter and Bray are not quite ready based on what they have shown so far this year.

I would think most of them are not ready. I could see a couple guys on the OL as a possibility. I could also see Hunter going as he has a child. I would guess all of them will take a hard look at the program, where they see it going and if staying another year could help/hurt them. If UT were to have another bad season, it sure would not help them. Bray will have to decide if staying another year will matter. If he does not plan on listening to the coaches and decide to start looking at check downs, have the ability to check into other plays, and just overall being a better QB, he might as well go now. Another year of not doing these things will just hurt him status even more to NFL guys. JMO

Hiring Dooley was a HUGE mistake but you don't fix it by making another mistake and bringing Fulmer back.

I wasn't in ANY way advocating Fulmer being rehired. Just that with hindsight now being 20/20, I think we'd be in close to the same place we are now had we kept him. Still able to beat Vandy and UK (most of the time) and sweeping the OOC schedule. Given a 12 game schedule, I'm pretty confident Fulmer could still get to 6 wins most years, which is also the best Dooley has ever done and appears to be right on track to get 6 (possibly 7) this year.

I always felt pretty good when Fulmer, Cut and Chief were together. That was a consistent 9-10 win group of coaches. Fulmer probably brought in better talent in the early 2000's than he did even in the 90's and had what could have been a very long run in place. He made a few bad assistant choices and lost some games he should have won. The recruiting fell off toward the end and it was curtains.

I always felt that Fulmer was afraid to go get the best assistants for fear of them running him out of a job the way he did with Majors. Whether that's true or not I have no idea, but his assistant hires post-'98 were always VERY underwhelming.

I second that. I first thought you wanted to rehire him first though.

I don't want to get rid of Dooley JUST because I don't want to start over.

BUT since we all know he is not the guy to take us to the big dance would it not be wise to replace him sooner than later? Just my thinking. . .

Fulmer took this program to a new level that we had never reached before in the early 90's. He then proceeded to tear it down slowly through years of mediocrity on and off the field. He needed to be fired. End of story!

Lane Kiffin was hired to bring attention to a program that had been forgotten. He did that, but he got too much attention and the NCAA came knocking. I'm glad he left but was just as pleased when he was hired because we needed to make a change.

Dooley was brought in to re-establish a culture of integrity and discipline. He has done that. No he has not won any games that he wasn't supposed to. But he has brought us back from the depths of the Fulmer regime and the Kiffin debacle. I hope Dooley remains through 2013. At that point, if we are not back to the level that we should be, then I think Dave Hart will make that decision at that time.

Either way, we are in a better place, as a program, than we were before Dooley was hired. GBO!!!!!!!!

I don't really agree with that. We were basically a .500 team when Fulmer was fired and are pretty much at that .500 level today.

I was one of the fire Phil group, I will admit it. Looks where that has led us. It will take 3-4 more years ( best case ) to get back on topand thereis no guarantee we will ever get there. The way the Phil firing was handled made us in bad odor with top flight coaches. How can anyone not see that now?

My hero?? :birgits_giggle:

Does it bother in the slightest that most people that know you personally think you're a lying blowhard?

I say , if we lose Sat., fire DooMan at years end and get Petrino before Auburn does. If they get BP, they will also own us for the near future. I know - the man has problems- but he would put back in the top ten in 2 yrs max.

Fulmer did NOT rum Majors out of his job. Majors did that to himself.
However Fulmer didn't hire well towards the end.

Went downhill after the 2001 SEC title game in my opinion... LSU didn't deserve to be on the same field as that Tennessee team.. Dagum Matt Mauck

I'm glad Fulmer was our coach and I'm glad he's not.

You've heard of the term a "system quarterback" right? Well I believe that Fulmer was a "system coach." He was successful here because the conditions were set up absolutely perfect for him to succeed! If Fulmer were head coach at any other program, I truly believe that he would not have been as successful.

Why do you think no other school would touch him after he was fired from UT?

+1

If winning 3x as many games as you lose gets you canned at a place you have attended school, coached and loved your whole life, what's the chance I(insert coaches name here) can do any better? Of course if a coach is making 500,000.00 and he gets the call with an offer of the "2 million we seem to be stuck on", he is usually going to take it.
