Who thinks Canales is a "C" hire now?

They sure had a number of draftees...maybe Butch outcoached him? Butch was 2-0 against Spurrier, and both teams were supposedly more talented soooo? :)

The first game against Spurrier was the best game he coached here. The second game, we were more talented. Spurrier barely recruited in his last years at SC.

I'll repeat it again, During the week, Lyle is a top 10 coach. On gameday, he's close to that 51st ranking.

Second SC squad was still projected high in the preseason. Was took down a peg after A&M throttled them but they were comparable if not more talented. Our OL was atrocious and coaching a winning record out of that mess deserved props.

Noted and I'll reissue my disagreement. Some of the names in front of him is an insult to normal intelligence.

Orgeron being in front of him is a complete joke.

That second SC team was way over projected in that preseason.

When the 2014 class rolled in, it really increased our talent level by a lot.

And SC was coming off a season where they ended up #4. Our pro day had a kicker register the fastest 40...we had "a lot" to go.

Didn't Spurrier give an interesting post-Tenn-game-loss presser a few years back?

Can anyone post a link to that?

Beat Florida. Hadn't been done since Fulmer was relevant.

No Tennessee coach since Robert Neyland in 1937 and 1948 has lost to Vanderbilt twice....68 years and 12 coaches ago. Tennessee last beat Florida prior to 2016 in 2004..... 12 years and 4 coaches ago......that's quite the difference.

The General was 16-4-2 vs Vandy, won 73% of the time over 22 games. Jones is now 2-2, 50% after 4 games...

Even Dooley won 2 outta 3 vs the West End Pansies.

Anywho, pretty confident we can all agree that Butch Jones is no Robert Neyland 😊

So since there are no more ties, Butch would have to not win 4 more games to match our standardbearer? And even more confident that Butch ain't no Dooley.

Huh? Neyland beat Vandy 16 times in 22 tries, only lost to them 2 more times in 22 games than Jones has in 4. Don't think Jones is going 14-2 vs Vandy or anybody else any time soon, do you?

And again Butchy my friend, none of the other 11 coaches since Neyland, including Majors and even Dooley, has dropped 2 games vs Vanderbilt....that's the actual bigger point. No Vol head coach loses to Vanderbilt like Butch Jones.

Every bloody thread in the FF devolves into a Butch *****fest. VN is rife with those whose every post is antagonistic towards Jones. That these characterize any counterpoint to their diatribes as the "long knives" of Butch true believers is absurd. In the FF, reasoned argument is as rare as a gemstone amidst the scree.

Remember Canales? This is a thread about Canales...

And Dooley never sniffed a win against UGA,FL or...SC. Never had the OPPORTUNITY to lose to Vandy a second time after that epically mismatched final game of his tenure. Smoke and mirrors with numbers, KB. Deciding a coach's legacy based on 4 years. Neyland was hired to stop the bleeding against Vandy...back when most teams had a similar basic level of talent. Butch had to recruit a 180 degree difference in talent and develop it into a team. Excuse me if I don't sign on an anomaly as the final verdict for a coach that most likely won't have 22 games as a canvas. Stubbornness is an obstacle that Butch needs to overcome. Overhauling his staff is a decent start to that. I'll be more heartened if simple things like putting Jacob Carter and Josh Smith back to SAFELY return kicks instead of a Cam Sutton,Evan Berry or Marquez Callaway becomes an obsolete way of thinking. Use the athletes you recruit as weapons and the Vandy losses don't happen imo.

Smoke and mirrors Butch? I honestly am not exactly sure what you just said.

Let me be as straightforward then as possible with as transparent and simple a stat as can be put forth.

No Tennessee head football coach since since 1948, which now includes the last 12 head coaches before Butch, has ever lost two times to lowly Vanderbilt.....Butch Jones is the only guy to do so in the last 68 years.

No smoke, no mirrors, just one simple irrefutable fact. Is that better?

And we can break down the regular season and bowl records of said 12, and he would place pretty high. You're compressing one loss to a "lowly" opponent and attempting to make it mean more than what a HC is hired for...whole lotta smoke...even more mirrors. While we're being transparent. Now that's better. :hi:
