Many media know-it-alls rated him a "C" hire. He's looking pretty now, isn't he?

Get #3 QB to commit. Has Dormady looking decent compared to what we thought we'd see.

Not a lot to go on, but good so far.

Let's wait to see the sum of the parts.

That said, being, apparently, a large part of getting Martinez to commit is a good sign in the recruiting front.

Pump the brakes. We should all have learned by now that you can't truly evaluate players or coaches without a body of work. I'm hopeful, but it's too early to rub people's noses in their evaluations.

Amazing what a major university in a major conference can do for a coach's recruiting reputation. Doubt he could've gotten Martinez to come to North Texas and that's not slighting Canales. Sometimes a coach just needs the Power T or another entity to boost their selling points.

We all know CBJ can sell. He's got to start getting results on the field to match the talent.

Main thing we know is that when results on field are NOT as expected CBJ is willing to make some hard cuts even to old friends and bring in new coaches.

That "brakes" thing goes both ways. Lot of people didn't engage them before declaring him a failed hire.

People just looked at the schools he was at and did not dig deep into his qualifications. I was privileged to watch more Spring scrimmages than media and their is nothing bad to say how he handled the QB'S this Spring. Also he has a dynamite personality and that is why his players and recruits like him.

I realize its way too early/not enough data to support a conclusion but Dormadys passing in the spring game gave me hope. Both in him and Canales, Dormady imo looked like a razor but at the same time relaxed.

True. All I'm saying is it's too early to rule him a success or a failure. I think I'll let him coach a while before I give an opinion on his abilities as a coach. I love the job on the recruiting trail, though. Props for that.

Exactly, because all we could go on was his resume which had plenty of years on it yet not that impressive. His high mark was coaching Rivers and the details of that was given which made that not look so good.

Yes he appears to be doing well recruiting, but let's see how well he coaches the QBs.

Again not saying fail hire, just wait and see on coaching part.

it is way too early to place a grade on this coach. He would have better background if he had some SEC experience and success in the SEC. I have yet to see him coach an SEC QB to success or failure to give him any grade. And no, getting a high school commitment doesn't get him a grade either. Let the kid first sign and then perform before giving credit to a coach.. JMO

Kudos for Canales on getting Martinez. I have high expectations for QD based on what I've seen since he got here, Canales doesn't get credit for him. Let's slow the roll a bit and see what happens once the lights turn on in September.

What game has been played since he was hired where we can actually judge his work? I must have missed it.

No real way to judge his coaching yet. But I highly doubt most thought he could come in and land a QB as highly rated as Martinez with the concerns about his recruiting ability in a conference like the SEC.

At the very least, he's making sure that the old school rb handoffs won't be fumbles from, teams seeming to never practice it anymore.... * Also snaps under center.
