D1 schools know football is where the dollars are. To add a school, they have to bring something to the table for football
What did South Carolina and Mizzo bring then? SC had absolutely zero football history outside of Joe Morris and Mizzou wasnt much better.

South Carolina brings a lot to football Compared to Kansas. So does Mizzou. TV markets primarily, no one in the general vicinity of Lawrence, Kansas gives a dern about SEC football

I voted kansas. I was thinking about what they'd bring for basketball

Big Ten can have 'em. Id rather add North Carolina/Duke and Virginia for basketball along with either West Virginia or Virginia Tech. If this was solely for strengthening the SEC football resume then it would obviously be Clemson, FSU, Miami, and...Pitt? Though Pitt makes more sense in the Big 10 to me.

UNC because their fb program is on the rise and their men’s bball program is easily top 5. Women’s bball pretty good as well. They’re also a potential border state rival for us, the closest state border to Knoxville in fact.

Clemson because they’re one of two or three non-SEC schools to consistently make the playoff, plus the SCar rivalry. The three Carolina schools would be a neat trifecta of rivalries.

FSU and Miami because they’re multi-sport once-and-future (maybe) powerhouses, and with that the conference OWNS the state of Florida.

No to VT and UVA because you want to take both or neither. UVA would be a cupcake in football and VT is middling in football and marginal in most other sports. No to WVU because they fit better in the B1G imo. Their campus lies roughly between Columbus and State College, after all.

My question is why would we want a school that is on the rise to have the prestige of the SEC attached to their school? Especially one in a state that many elite players leave so that they can play big boy SEC football. I might disagree with the idea that West Virginia is Big 10 fit. No way the Big accepts them with their academics.

Clemson, FL St, Va Tech, and Miami. ACC wouldn’t really miss any of those teams for basketball. Va Tech, FSU and Clemson are good cultural fits in the SEC. Miami would be an awesome away game to go to. I’d like to keep UNC/Duke together for basketball.

In my opinion, the SEC has to move Westward to counter the national expansion of the B1G. Adding programs from more Southeastern states in which we already have programs seems unproductive to the aim of nationwide exposure and reach.

UNC & UVA are definite adds. But, I don’t see the point of bringing-in Miami, FSU, and Clemson. Clemson is a big-time program as of late, but from a smaller state where we already have a presence.

If we’re taking the consolidation of college football seriously, the SEC needs to look to PAC country for the next additions, especially with the ACC GOR seeming so airtight at the moment. Is 24 the magic number?

I’d go with 4-5 of the following:
Oregon
Washington (Seattle)
Colorado (Denver)
Utah
Arizona State (Phoenix)

Capture big Western markets and keep the B1G from getting the best of the remaining PAC schools.

This leaves 3 spots for ACC teams when the GOR is closer to expiration.

Then add 2 from a combination of UNC/UVA/NCSU/VT.

One or two spots would still remain. Attempting to bring in Stanford to better coax Notre Dame may also be a possibility, though I feel they would both prefer the B1G.
