Who replaces English?

Hopefully we can find the next great overrated assistant and fans can get the silly notion that he can be elevated straight to the head coaching position with no head coaching experience.

Agree. That hire was more important just because of what it did to stabilize our program. While perhaps our best assistant, English is replaceable and the position should be much more desirable now than when Schwartz replaced Ogden. Barnes will likely have people lining up for that position.

VQ made the comment that Rick will literally probably get 100 phone calls yesterday about the job

BTO said yesterday that Jonas Hayes is a name to watch

Like that hire for sure, ties to Georgia with a pedigree for being a good recruiter. Plus he's still fairly young and hungry, I'm sure seeing two of our assistants elevate from here to Head Coaching jobs helps make this a more attractive job than Xavier as well.

Yet others say we need a young coach to bring in new ideas?
I guess in some sense everyone is young compared to Barnes. If we are talking young like English nope. It’s less of an age thing and more of an experience. I want a strategist and teacher. I don’t like Barnes staff at all.

What kind of program do you want the Vols to have?

5 star recruits year in and year out? Aka Duke, Kansas, Kentucky?

3-4 year guys ala Gonzaga? Houston?

The answer to that is the answer to what kind of staff you want.

Not hating on Kim, I think he's really good, says more about the other two assistants. Both far more experienced. Barnes relies more on Schwartz for X's & O's and Oliver does way more heavy lifting on the recruiting trail than anyone else and it's not close. Grant Williams, Kyle Alexander, Jordan Bone, Jaden, Keon off the top of my head since he's been here.

Kim did a great job with Chandler but he played for the St. Louis Eagles AAU program, English went to Missouri so had lots of ties to the program and some built in advantages and Oliver also had a hand in that recruitment and the family loved Barnes.

Huge get. Seeing what she did with Loyola, we're a lock for our first final 4!

Certainly would qualify as "an experienced veteran!" Probably good at strategy and teaching as well. Roustabout? Better?

I don't think Martelli is coming here, but that would be a great ride.
